    Abstract: An acoustic wave biosensor comprises a plurality of spaced apart electrodes disposed on a substrate of piezoelectric material and having a biolayer matched to a specific type of autoinducer signaling molecule to be detected. The biolayer comprises a layer of heterobifunctional molecules disposed on the electrodes and on the piezoelectric material between the electrodes, and a plurality of bioreceptor molecules which bind exclusively with the specific type of autoinducer signaling molecule to be detected. The bioreceptor molecules are supported by the layer of heterobifunctional molecules, and a hydrogel layer surrounds the bioreceptor molecules to support a three-dimensional structure thereof. The bioreceptor molecules can bind with the specific type of autoinducer signaling molecule to be detected, and the biolayer is reactive thereto such that corresponding autoinducer signaling molecules bind to the biolayer and detectably vary acoustic characteristics of the acoustic wave biosensor.

At least two chemically orthogonal or semi-orthogonal biolayers are supported by the piezoelectric material to receive substances to be tested and cause corresponding changes in the acoustic wave. The output transducer can transmit a corresponding output signal embodying separate channel data indicative of the substances received.

    Abstract: A biosensor detection system for detecting a particular substance has at least two biosensor devices. Each biosensor device includes a piezoelectric material, an input transducer mounted on the piezoelectric material to receive an input radio frequency signal and propagate a corresponding acoustic wave within the piezoelectric material and an output transducer mounted on the piezoelectric material to receive the acoustic wave and transmit a corresponding output radio frequency signal. A biolayer is mounted on the piezoelectric material to receive a substance to be tested and cause a corresponding change in the acoustic wave. An oscillator circuit is connected to the input transducer and to the output transducer, the oscillator circuit including an amplifier and providing an output signal indicative of a change in the acoustic wave.

The absorbing material is applied to the skin of the subject to cause sweat fluid thereon to be absorbed by the absorbing material whereby the measurement apparatus produces ionic concentration data for the sweat fluid absorbed and the user interface interprets the data for a user.

    Abstract: A deployable acoustic wave RFID/biosensor assembly has at least one protective layer, and an acoustic wave RFID/biosensor within the protective layer or layers. The acoustic wave RFID/biosensor includes an acoustic wave device, a biolayer mounted on the acoustic wave device, an electric circuit operable to actuate the acoustic wave device, and a fluidic chamber associated with the biolayer. In use, the fluidic chamber contains fluid which, if a predetermined substance to be sensed is present, operates to modify the biolayer which in turn affects the operation of the acoustic wave device. Protective fluid is provided within the protective layer or layers substantially surrounds the acoustic wave RFID/biosensor to protect the acoustic wave RFID/biosensor from damage when the RFID/biosensor assembly impacts a target and to protect the biolayer from deterioration during storage and use.

    Abstract: A SAW communication device has a main IDT mounted on an SAW substrate to receive an RF signal received by an antenna and convert the RF signal to an acoustic wave which travels along the SAW substrate in opposite directions from the main IDT. At least two secondary IDTs are mounted on the SAW substrate on opposite sides of and spaced from the main IDT to receive and reflect the acoustic wave in a modulated form such that the modulated acoustic wave from one secondary IDT is delayed relatively to the modulated acoustic wave from a secondary IDT on the opposite side of the main IDT to the one secondary IDT. The main IDT is also operable to receive and convert the reflected modulated acoustic waves to a further RF signal with a concatenated waveform corresponding to the two modulated acoustic waves and transmit the further RF signal from the antenna.

A biolayer is mounted on the piezoelectric material and is associated with the finger electrode segment, and a fluidic chamber is associated with the biolayer.

    Abstract: A SAW RFID tag or sensor has an antenna for receiving and propagating an RF signal, an input/output IDT electrically connected to the antenna, and a dual track reflective IDT having a first track and a second track located adjacent and acoustically coupled to the input/output IDT. An RF signal received from the antenna by the input/output IDT is transformed by the input/output IDT into an acoustic way which is propagated to the dual track IDT. One track of the dual track IDT is in-phase with the phase reference of the input/output IDT and the other track is in quadrature phase with said phase reference. The input/output IDT receives two orthogonal complex modulated acoustic waves reflected from the first and second tracks and transforms them to a modulated orthogonal complex RF signal which is propagated from the antenna.
