Abstract: This invention relates to salts of oxyalkylated amino compounds which render normally water insoluble components such as biocides, soluble in water and thereby improving their usefulness and effectiveness. These amino compounds render biocides such as methylene bis(thiocyanate) (MBT) and/or bis(trichloromethyl) sulfone (BTMS) water soluble. The soluble forms of these biocides afford more predictable, consistent and effective biocidal results when applied to systems contaminated with microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, algae, molds, and certain yeasts and thus offer considerable advantages over insoluble, dispersible, emulsified forms of these biocides.
Abstract: There is described a composition comprising an acylated, alkylated polyamine, an alkylated polyamine, an alkynol and a surfactant. The compositions are useful as corrosion inhibitors for acid systems and ferrous pickling systems and in acidizing media in the treatment of oil-bearing earth formations.
Abstract: A system, method and probe for monitoring the corrosion rate of different metals in identical corrosive fluids and under identical conditions, such metals being employed as electrodes other than reference electrodes in a probe having also a reference electrode. The preferred probe comprises a probe body holding at least four electrodes, where one is placed in the center and the others around it in a circle. The center electrode is preferably used as a permanent reference electrode. Each electrode on the circle can then be connected in turn to a channel on a multistation PAIR meter as test and auxiliary electrodes, whereby the corrosion rate on each of them can be monitored in turn. This arrangement greatly enhances the utility of the multistation PAIR meter and with only two entry ports in a system, all channels can serve to answer specific questions on specific electrodes or metals. The novel probe can also be used with a one channel PAIR meter employed with a multi-station manual switch.

Abstract: The invention pertains to particulate compositions comprising a mixture of a low melting point petroleum additive and a higher melting point polymer which mixture is then coated with a high melting point polymer. The mixture of the additive and higher melting point polymer has a melting point close to the melting point of the polymer (i.e., significantly higher than the melting point of the additive). The high melting point polymer coating allows the composition to be added to petroleum systems having high temperatures without immediately dissolving, i.e., the compositions are only slowly soluble in hot crude oil. Accordingly, a slow, controlled release is afforded by the compositions of the invention.
Abstract: This invention relates to the inhibition of corrosion resulting from the presence of vanadium and sodium in fuels, for example, in residual fuels, such as in those fuels used in steam boilers, process heaters and gas turbines, etc., by adding Mg/Al/Si combinations thereto. Mg/Al/Si combinations are more effective than other inhibitors at a high Na/V ratio.
Abstract: This invention relates to .alpha.-aminoalkylsulfur compositions and to the preparation and uses thereof, particularly as corrosion inhibitors. These compositions contain a moiety of the general formula ##STR1## in a linear or cyclic configuration.

Abstract: Novel demulsifier compositions, their method of preparation and use as demulsifiers are described. The novel demulsifiers comprise the partially condensed reaction product of a blend of at least two oxyalkylated materials with a vinyl monomer. The demulsifiers are useful in the resolution of water-in-oil emulsions.

Abstract: This invention relates to vinyl-type interpolymers having an overall carbon/oxygen atom ratio of about 2 to about 4, which is preferably derived from 2 types of vinyl monomers:(1) at least one vinyl-type monomer present in the interpolymer at about 50 mole % or greater and having a carbon/oxygen atom ratio of about 3 or less ("hydrophilic" monomer), and(2) at least one vinyl-type monomer present in the interpolymer at about 50 mole % or less and having a carbon/oxygen atom ratio of about 3 or more ("hydrophobic" monomer).Typical examples are vinyl acetate/vinyl fatty ester copolymers and vinyl acetate/dialkyl maleate copolymers. This invention also relates to uses for these compositions, particularly in the demulsification of W/O emulsions.
Abstract: Amino-phosphonates are prepared by reacting an enamine with a phosphite ester, for example, according to the equation ##STR1## where OR' is an alcohol moiety and NR.sub.2 is an amino moiety, both R and R' being preferably hydrocarbon such as alkyl or R.sub.2 is part of a ring structure. These compounds have many uses, for example, as corrosion inhibitors, scale inhibitors, fuel stabilizers, etc. In addition, amino-phosphonates can be converted to alpha, beta - unsaturated phosphonates according to the equation ##STR2## which are useful in forming flame retardant polymers and copolymers.
