  • Publication number: 20120196316
Abstract: Method for analyzing a sample comprising at least one ovum or embryo, the method being based on digital holographic imaging, the method comprising the following steps: creating at least one object beam and at least one reference beam of light, where said at least one object beam and said at least one reference beam are mutually coherent; exposing said sample to said at least one object beam; superimposing said at least one object beam that has passed through said sample with said at least one reference beam and thereby creating an interference pattern; detecting said interference pattern, called hologram; reconstructing phase and/or amplitude information of object wavefront from said interference pattern; and constructing at least one ovum or embryo analysis image and determining at least one ovum or embryo quality showing parameter from said phase and/or amplitude information.

  • Patent number: 7948632
Abstract: A non-destructive method and device for analyzing a sample comprising transparent living and/or dead cells, by 5 means of a digital holographic microscope, where the sample (8) is exposed to light from a laser (2). The light that travels through the cells in the sample will experience a difference in the optical path length compared to the surrounding media and the wave front that emerges from the 10 cells will thus be phase shifted. This distortion can be detected in the digital hologram, which is reconstructed from the interference pattern detected by a digital sensor (17), such as a CCD or a CMOS, as phase differences or phase shifts and thereby creating a digital hologram. The 15 phase shift of each element of the hologram is then used for analyzing the characteristics of the cells in the sample.

  • Publication number: 20070109555
Abstract: A method and device for determining refractive index of an object compared to a refractive index of a surrounding medium. The object is exposed to a laser object beam and the scattered light interferes with a laser reference beam to obtain a hologram. The hologram is analyzed for phase information, and based thereon, it is determined if the refractive index of the object is higher or lower than the refractive index of the surrounding medium.
