  • Patent number: 3949938
Abstract: A fuel injection system comprising a fuel injection nozzle having a fuel injection orifice, and a vibrator to produce atomization of the fuel injected by the nozzle, the nozzle being equipped at the inlet side of its nozzle orifice with a liquid retaining ball valve which is arranged to normally close the nozzle orifice and thus prevent the injection of fuel by the nozzle and which is adapted to move away from the nozzle orifice when the vibrator is activated and thus allow the injection of fuel by the nozzle, the valve being situated in a housing in the nozzle and the housing having an aperture at a position where the valve tends to move when the vibrator is activated, thereby to allow the fuel to enter the housing through this aperture and force the valve towards the nozzle orifice when the nozzle is not being vibrated. Usually, the fuel will be introduced into the housing by passing along the passage and through the small passages in the housing.

  • Patent number: 3949194
Abstract: A check-out terminal wherein coded data identifying articles being checked out is carried past an optical code reading system at a substantially constant distance away includes a tilted main conveyor belt and at least two subsidiary conveyor belts arranged along a longitudinal side edge of the main conveyor belt in a manner such that the major surface of each of the subsidiary belts is substantially at right angles to the major surface of the main belt. The subsidiary belts are arranged so that when relative movement is produced between the articles carried by the conveyor belts and the optical code reading system, the coded data identifying the articles is exposed to the optical code reading system.

  • Patent number: 3943041
Abstract: A method of producing a tantalum capacitor wherein the tantalum anode of the capacitor is anodised in an electrolyte which is maintained at a temperature of not greater than 25.degree.C, the value of the anodising current density being selected so that heat dissipation is minimised and the electrolyte concentration is maintained.

  • Patent number: 3938322
Abstract: In order to automatically adapt the control of an ultrasonic fuel-injection system or other system in which fuel delivery from nozzles is normally controlled by varying the mark/space ratio of energising current supplied to the nozzles, to variation of ambient pressure, a pressure-regulating unit is provided in a line leading from a source of fuel under pressure to the nozzles through a manually adjustable throttle valve and is arranged to maintain the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet of this series arrangement constant for any given ambient pressure P1. An altitude compensator comprising a spring-expanded vacuum capsule and a mechanical transmission is provided for varying this pressure difference in proportion to the ambient absolute pressure P1.

  • Patent number: 3932063
Abstract: A liquid ring pump comprising a housing, a substantially oval chamber within said housing, and a hub supporting a plurality of radially disposed vanes adapted to rotate within said chamber, said pump being such that the interstices between said individual vanes are partially blocked by a blocking mass which rotates with said vanes and which raises the stall pressure ratio of said pump to increase its pumping efficiency. The blocking mass is additional to the hub and in the case where the liquid ring pump also includes a gas/liquid mixture inlet port and a gas discharge port arranged on opposite sides of said pump, then the blocking mass forms a weir which gives the additional advantage that it acts to prevent the direct axial migration of liquid from said inlet port to said gas discharge port, thus enabling said pump to easily separate said gas liquid mixture into separate gas and liquid phases.
