Patent number: 11821205Abstract: A structural grid support system adapted for transferring seismic loads to the vertical structural supports of a modular structure. The system includes larger and longer high load capacity main runners with mechanically fastened cross tees, which transfer seismic forces without failing. The structural grid can provide a diaphragm using mechanically fastened connections in a single horizontal plane without requiring additional overhead support from the roof deck, or requiring fewer such supports. The main runners may include additional connecting elements disposed within the usable space beneath the runner (e.g., ventral threaded receivers) for attaching deployment-specific equipment or hardware, such as network cable trays.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2021Date of Patent: November 21, 2023Assignee: Porta-Fab CorporationInventors: Wayne McGee, Steve Skikas, Trace Woodrum, Thomas Tall

Patent number: 11808033Abstract: A structural stud post assembly comprising a center receiver section having opposing receiver channels formed by side walls and angled flanges, and a pair of raceway inserts also defining a raceway channel for accepting wiring and equipment to be disposed in the raceway. The raceways can be installed in the receiver channels to accept and accommodate wiring and equipment. The center receiver comprises a thermal break at about a midpoint to prevent there from being a metal-to-metal thermally conductive pathway through the stud. The structural stud post may be used in the construction of modular building systems.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 2021Date of Patent: November 7, 2023Assignee: Porta-Fab CorporationInventors: Wayne McGee, Steve Skikas, Trace Woodrum

Patent number: 7748182Abstract: A modular wall system is described that includes a plurality of wall panels, a horizontal main bracket having a length; and a plurality of wall panel brackets. Each wall panel bracket is configured for attachment to a corresponding one of the wall panels. Each wall panel bracket is configured to engage the horizontal main bracket so as to hang the corresponding the wall panel while allowing movement of the wall panels in substantially horizontal directions.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 2005Date of Patent: July 6, 2010Assignee: Porta-Fab CorporationInventors: Wayne R. Patent number: 6360510Abstract: A stud for a modular building system. The stud comprises two elongate channel members secured together, with each of the channel members have a generally hat-shaped cross section. The channel members each have a bottom web, and a first and second side web. the side webs extend perpendicularly and upward from opposite sides of the bottom web. The channel members further comprise a first and second flange that extend laterally from the first and second side webs respectively. In one aspect of the invention, each flange comprises a first segment extending generally laterally outward from the upper edge of its respective side web and a second segment folded back upon the first segment and extending back toward the side web. In another aspect of the invention, the second segment overlaps and overlies the underside of the first segment, and the fold or crease between the first and second segments, has a rounded profile and forms a bead at the edge of each flange.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1998Date of Patent: March 26, 2002Assignee: Porta-Fab CorporationInventors: Trace A. Patent number: 6016632Abstract: A modular wall system comprising a framing assembly supporting a plurality of wall panels. The framing assembly includes top members, bottom members, and studs extending between the top and bottom members for supporting the wall panels. Each stud has a generally rectangular cross-section with a front face, a back face, and left and right side faces. The front face has a recess therein with a longitudinally extending ridged trough therein for receiving threaded fasteners. The back face having an outwardly-opening generally C-shaped channel with a longitudinally extending ridged trough therein for receiving threaded fasteners.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1996Date of Patent: January 25, 2000Assignee: Porta-Fab CorporationInventors: Wayne R. Patent number: 5287675Abstract: A wall stud assembly for a wall of an in-plant/portable building wherein the wall includes interfitting wall stud assemblies and wall panels is disclosed. The stud assembly comprises first and second stud members, each of which is generally U-shaped in cross-section and has an open side and a base side. In addition, a strut is positioned longitudinally between the first and second stud members and affixed to the base sides of the stud members, with the open sides of the stud members facing outwardly. Each stud member has laterally extending flanges. The flanges of one stud member are in spaced generally parallel relation to the flanges of the other stud member to sandwich a wall panel therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1991Date of Patent: February 22, 1994Assignee: Porta-Fab CorporationInventor: Wayne R. Patent number: 4910938Abstract: A wall stud for the wall of an in-plant/portable building where the wall includes interfitting wall studs and panels. The wall stud has first and second interfitting stud members that fit in telescoping engagement. Each stud member is generally U-shaped in cross-section with outwardly, laterally extending flanges to sandwich a wall panel therebetween with the members in telescoping engagement. The first stud member has an outwardly angled flange at each side thereof, and the second stud member has an outwardly angled side wall portion at each side thereof such that the angled wall portions and angled flanges are in mating engagement with each other with the members in telescoping engagement. The mating angled side wall portions and angled flanges are adapted to receive a fastener to secure them in mating engagement and thereby secure the stud members in telescoping engagement.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1988Date of Patent: March 27, 1990Assignee: Porta-Fab CorporationInventor: Jerry V.
