    Abstract: The invention relates to a composition for the protection of materials against contaminations, spots and stains.This liquid composition comprises by weight 0.1 to 1% of at least one fluorinated resin based on acrylic or methacrylic esters of fluorinated sulfonamido-alcohol, associated or not with non-fluorinated monomers, 0.4 to 10% of at least one adjuvant selected from aminoplast resins based on melamine, thermoplastic resins and waxes, and 89 to 99.5% of at least one organic solvent.Applied on materials such as walls, facades, monuments or sculptures in cement, bricks, concrete or stones and other construction elements, the composition according to the invention confers on the materials an excellent protection against natural or artificial contaminations.

    Abstract: The invention relates to the preparation of 1-phenyl-3-carbamoyl-5-pyrazolones of the formula: ##STR1## in which the two symbols R and R' may be the same or different and each represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl radical or a substituted alkyl radical containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms.An aqueous paste of diethyl oxalacetate phenylhydrazone is heated at a temperature not greater than 85.degree. C. until the hydrazone is completely melted, and the aqueous phase is then removed and the remaining hydrazone is treated with 2 to 12 molar equivalents of a compound of the formula HNRR' at a temperature between 20.degree. and 100.degree. C. The formation of 1-phenyl-3-carboxy-5-pyrazolone is thus avoided.

Part of the process is the preparation of needed meta-isopropylphenol in high purity free of other isomers by treating any mixture of isopropylphenol isomers in an excess of anhydrous hydrogen fluoride or a perfluorinated alkanesulfonic acid of one to six carbon atoms and a Lewis acid fluoride or by alkylating (transalkylating) phenol with a propyl alkylating agent in the presence of the aforementioned superacid systems.
