Abstract: Multi-layer paper structures and processes of producing the same are described. A method includes moving a backer web within an in-line process and die cutting the backer web associated with a backer web roll to define a support structure, the backer web comprising a front face and a back face. The method includes moving a display web within the in-line process and at least one of printing or imaging the display web associated with a display web roll, the display web comprising a front face and a back face. The method includes applying first adhesive via pattern or solid pasting to the front face of the backer web or the back face of the display web and coupling the backer web and the display web via the first adhesive to form a web of easels.

Abstract: An apparatus for controlling application of a substance to a substrate involves the use of a gating agent that blocks the substance from or attracts the substance to the substrate. The apparatus may utilize ink jet technology to apply the gating agent directly to the substrate or to an intermediate surface. The gating agent includes a nonionic surfactant, and water. The gating agent does not contain a discernable amount of dye, pigment or other colorant agent.

Abstract: A printing system includes an inkjet cartridge, an ink reservoir, and a reversible pump. A method and system of operating the printing system are providing in which first fluid line couples the ink reservoir and an input port of the inkjet cartridge. A second fluid line couples the reversible pump and an output port of the inkjet cartridge. The reversible pump is operated in a first direction to supply ink from the ink reservoir to the ink jet cartridge via the first fluid line. The reversible pump is a second direction to supply ink from the ink reservoir to the inkjet cartridge via the second fluid line. The reversible pump is operated in the first direction and the second direction repeatedly and sequentially for a predetermined duration.

Abstract: A method of printing a printed output of a press comprising ink on a print medium applies ink to a surface, places individually controlled drops of aqueous solution onto the print medium in a drop pattern, and transfers ink from the surface to areas of the print medium that are free of aqueous solution to produce the printed output of the press. A method of variable printing is also disclosed.

Abstract: A method of producing a printed sheet output of a printing press uses an aqueous solution, an ink, and an input sheet. The method applies aqueous solution to the input sheet to form a non-image area and an image area thereon, and contacts the non-image and image areas of the input sheet with ink. Ink is transferred substantially only to the image area to produce the printed sheet output of the printing press. A method of producing a printed web of a printing press is also disclosed.

Abstract: A printing system deposits a principal substance on a surface and further deposits a gating agent on selectable portions of a print medium. A portion of the principal substance is transferred from the surface to the print medium after the gating agent is applied thereto. The gating agent substantially determines where the principal substance is deposited onto the print medium. A production system and method are also disclosed, as is a production apparatus.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and articles of manufacture to combine mail streams in a binding line are disclosed. An example method is used to create a first book on a production line, where the first book is associated with a first recipient address. The example method is then used to deposit the second book associated with a second recipient address via a book feeder on the first book as the first book moves along the production line.

The apparatus also includes an adjustment mechanism for adjusting the position of third side portion relative to the fixed side portions.

An example apparatus disclosed herein includes a platform having a plurality of openings to provide suction through a surface of the platform and a first track that moves across the surface of the platform. Abstract: Methods and apparatus for increasing co-mailing discounts are disclosed. An example method includes determining a first number of first books associated with a first pool, the first books to be addressed for delivery within a geographic region associated with a postal discount. The example method further includes identifying a filler from a second pool to fill open pockets associated with the first pool. The filler corresponds to a first type of book associated with the second pool. The example method also includes identifying a second number of second books associated with the filler to be bundled with the first books when the first number of the first books is less than a threshold number of books for the postal discount. The first number of the first books combined with the second number of the second books is at least as great as the threshold number of books.

Abstract: Systems and methods for high-speed variable printing are provided. Ink jet technology and lithographic systems may be combined in such a way to create a fully variable and high-quality print system. At least one area of a plate is reserved for variable information to be printed. The plate may already comprises static information to be printed. Ink is then applied to the at least one area of the plate reserved for the variable information. An aqueous solution is applied to a web to produce a negative image of the variable information, and a positive image of the variable information is transferred in ink to the web. The systems and methods described herein may be used to create high-quality one-to-one marketing applications.

Abstract: Sealed cards and methods for producing the same are described. An example method includes exposing a first side portion of a first layer of a sealed card assembly. The first layer covering instructions on an inner portion of a second layer of the sealed card assembly. The method also includes coupling the first side portion to an object to enable the instructions to be covered by the first layer until removal thereof.

Abstract: In a system and method for using a wiper to clean a nozzle plate of an inkjet head, a spring is disposed between the wiper and a mounting body, and the mounting body has a top portion and a bottom portion. The wiper is disposed proximate the top portion of the mounting body relative to the bottom portion of the mounting body. In addition, the wiper blade is transported across the face of a nozzle plate for wiping portions of the nozzle plate. A distance between the wiper blade and the bottom end of the mounting body is varied in accordance with variations in distances between the portions of the nozzle plate and the bottom portion of the mounting body.

Abstract: In a system and method for operating an ink supply to an inkjet cartridge, wherein the ink supply includes an ink reservoir and an ink tube, ink in the ink reservoir is coupled to ink in the ink tube. Ullage above the ink in the ink reservoir is coupled with ullage above the ink in the ink tube. Ink from the ink tube is supplied to the inkjet cartridge.

The first content is to be generated by a first content creator. Abstract: A method of printing on a substrate includes the steps of instructing a first imaging unit to print a first image and a registration mark on a substrate contemporaneously during a production run and detecting the registration mark. The method further includes the steps of determining a position on the substrate where a second image is to be printed in accordance with the detection of the registration mark and instructing a second imaging unit to print the second image on the substrate in accordance with the determined position.

The example mailer also includes a first indicia area on the first face of the first and second ply, while an adhesive is applied to adhere the second face of the first ply directly to the second face of the second ply to form the linerless mailer. At least one pattern of weakness is formed in the first and second plies and offset from each of the top and bottom edges and the first and second side edges of the first and second ply to form a removable first element and a removable second element. The first element and second element are separately removable from the mailer.
