    Abstract: Process for the production of monomeric monohydroxy unsaturated diesters of formula Ir.sub.1 --co.sub.2 --r.sub.2wherein: R.sub.1 represents an alkyl group of two to six carbon atoms containing a free hydroxyl group, or 2,3-dihydroxy-propyl group, or a group of formula --(CH.sub.2).sub.n O].sub.m [(CH.sub.2).sub.x --OH wherein n is 2 or 3, x is 2 or 3, and m is 1 to 800; R.sub.2 represents an alkyl group of linear or branched configuration containing 4 to 12 carbon atoms. These compounds may be copolymerized in solution or suspension by free radical processes with an alkylacrylate and a third olefinically unsaturated monomer. These copolymers can be crosslinked with amino resins to provide thermosetting film-forming compositions.

    Abstract: Novel radiation curable compositions incorporating a mixture of: 1. Unsaturated polyester prepared from polyhydric alcohol, unsaturated dicarboxylic acid and with or without saturated dicarboxylic acid, or unsaturated ether type polyester prepared for polyglycidyl ether and unsaturated monocarboxylic acid with 2. Saturated monomer of lactone or lactam type. The above compositions are cured with or without radiation sensitive additive and are useful in coating or printing ink applications.

    Abstract: A method of preparing a modified phenol-formaldehyde resin in solid particulate form comprising reacting together, in an aqueous medium, phenol and formaldehyde, in a ratio of 1.0 mole phenol to between 1.8 and 3.5 moles of formaldehyde, in the presence of between 0.1 and 1.0 moles of a basic catalyst; continuing this reaction until a desired viscosity is reached; modifying the reaction system by adding thereto between 0 and 30%, based on the weight of phenol originally taken of a non-phenolic polyhydroxy compound; spray drying the thus modified liquid resin in a pressure nozzle drier, and chilling the spray dried particulate solid. These solid resins are redispersible in water and stable on storage, compared to the known aqueous, equivalent, systems.
