Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method enabling telephony service subscribers to activate, deactivate, make service changes, and access call-related information from telephony services provided by a telephony service provider. According to one aspect, the service management system of the present invention interacts with subscriber terminals connected to a public data network. The service management system receives requests from subscriber terminals and converts the requests into a format compatible with terminal emulation programs, such as the Telnet protocol, running on end office switches. Using the converted request information, the requested service changes are made or the requested call-related information is collected by the end office switches with little or no intervention by service provider personnel.

Abstract: Failover of VPN traffic between MPLS tunnels is accelerated by determining a main and a standby MPLS tunnel for each VPN and passing both the main and standby MPLS tunnel information to the forwarding plane of a network element configured to implement the VPN. In the event of failover of a main MPLS tunnel interface, the forwarding plane is instructed to use the standby MPLS tunnel instead of the main MPLS tunnel. Since the standby MPLS tunnel has already been determined, and information associated with the standby MPLS tunnel has already been provided to the forwarding plane, it is not necessary to recompute a new MPLS tunnel or reprogram the forwarding plane using the new MPLS tunnel information. By removing control plane operations and control plane-forwarding plane interaction from the handling of failovers, the failover recovery time may be accelerated, to thereby enable VPN connections to handle time sensitive traffic.

Abstract: This invention relates to an advertisement machine which provides advertisements to a user searching for desired information within a data network. The machine receives, from a user, a search request including a search argument corresponding to the desired information and searches, based upon the received search argument, a first database having data network related information to generate search results. It also correlates the received search argument to a particular advertisement in a second database having advertisement related information. The search results together with the particular advertisement are provided by the machine to the user.

Abstract: The present invention allows a user to customize her personal conference bridge such that conference participants who connect to the bridge are provided conference information selected by the user. In particular, after each conference participant gains access to the personal conference bridge, the conference information is delivered to a terminal of the conference participant. Although the user associated with the personal conference bridge may be a conference participant, delivery of conference information to the user is optional. The conference information may be any type of media content, or information identifying the location of media content to present to the conference participants.
