Abstract: A disposable cutting sheet for cutting and preparation of food items thereon includes a first cut-resistant layer having a first surface area and including an absorbent ply and a thermoplastic material ply, wherein the thermoplastic material ply includes a plurality of apertures therein. The cutting sheet further includes a second layer having a second surface area and including an absorbent ply and a thermoplastic material ply. The absorbent ply of the first layer is disposed on and secured to the absorbent ply of the second layer such that portions of the thermoplastic and absorbent plies of the second layer extend beyond a surface area of the first layer to form a border completely surrounding the first layer. The thermoplastic material ply of the second layer is tinted a certain color for indicating absorption of the absorbent ply of the second layer.

Abstract: A disposable cutting sheet for cutting and preparation of food items thereon includes a first section having a plurality of apertures therethrough and a cut resistant surface, a second liquid impermeable section disposed adjacent the first section, and a fold line disposed between the first section and the second section, wherein folding along the fold line forms the cutting sheet. The cutting sheet further includes an absorbent material, wherein the first and second sections are folded along the fold line and moved relative to one another to form a pocket therebetween such that the absorbent material is disposed in the pocket between the first and second sections. One of a surface of the first section that faces the absorbent material in a folded position and a surface of the second section that faces the absorbent material in a folded position is roughened or textured in order to prevent slippage of the absorbent material within the sheet when folded.

Abstract: A method of making a multicompartment reclosable thermoplastic bag having at least two compartments is disclosed. Each compartment has a top, a bottom, two side edges, and two opposing sidewalls joined at the side edges and the bottom. Each compartment has a closure across the top thereof, which are arranged back-to-back and aligned. The compartments are attached together proximate the tops of the compartments, and the bottoms of the compartments are free from being attached to each other. Processes for making such bags from one or more webs are also disclosed.
Abstract: A sealable container cover includes both an elastic edge and an adhesive edge for sealing the container cover to the wall or walls of a container. The elastic material around the expandable opening of the container cover may be attached directly to the edge of the cover, housed by a hem created at the edge of the cover, or housed by an additional piece of film or other material attached at the edge of the cover.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming a rib on a section of plastic film utilizes a roll having a groove, extrudes molten polymer into the groove, and places the section of plastic film in contact with the molten polymer in the groove. The molten polymer in the groove is allowed to cool below the melting point thereof while the section of plastic film is in contact with the polymer to cause bonding therebetween and thereby form the rib.
Abstract: A disposable and absorbent cutting board may be constructed from a layer of corrugations and an absorbent layer. The corrugations may be relatively small and tightly spaced to provide the board with strength and rigidity. The absorbent layer may be made of non-woven cellulosic fibers and include one or more score lines to facilitate folding. A backing layer may also be provided, on the layer of corrugations opposite to the absorbent layer, to provide non-skid oliophilic or hydrophilic properties.

The first layer is disposed on and secured to the second layer such that portions of the thermoplastic and absorbent plies of the second layer extend beyond the surface area of the first layer to form a border completely surrounding the first layer. At least one of the absorbent plies is crepe paper, a roughened absorbent material, and/or includes an odor absorbing material therein.

Abstract: A recloseable storage bag is disclosed which may include first and second sides having closed sides and an open top. Primary closure members may be provided proximate the top, with a secondary closure element being provided in one of the sides to enable gas to be evacuated from the bag after the primary closure members are closed. The secondary closure member may be user-deformable, and reclosable after the gas is evacuated.
Abstract: A disposable cutting sheet for cutting and preparation of food items thereon includes a first cut-resistant layer having a first surface area and including an absorbent ply and a thermoplastic material ply, wherein the thermoplastic ply includes a plurality of apertures therethrough. The cutting sheet further includes a second layer having a second surface area and including an absorbent ply and a thermoplastic material ply. The cutting sheet further includes a third layer including an absorbent ply, wherein the third layer is disposed on and secured to the thermoplastic material ply of the second layer on a side opposite the second layer absorbent ply. The absorbent ply of the first layer is disposed on and secured to the absorbent ply and the second layer such that portions of the thermoplastic and absorbent plies of the second layer extend beyond the surface area of the first layer to form a border completely surrounding the first layer.
Abstract: An apparatus for applying a material to a substrate includes a housing having an inlet passage, a plurality of exit openings, and a recess in fluid communication between the inlet passage and the exit openings. A valve element is disposed in the recess wherein the valve element includes a first portion and a second portion axially displaced from the first portion. Means are provided for moving the valve element in the recess such that the first portion provides continuous fluid communication between the inlet passage and one of the exit openings during movement of the valve element and the second portion provides intermittent fluid communication between the inlet passage and another of the exit openings during movement of the valve element. A method of applying a material to a substrate is also disclosed.
Abstract: Reusable containers and lids with date indicating devices and methods for using the same disclosed, which allow the user to indicate one or more of the following: a date when the contents were stored, a date when the contents should be used, a time when the contents should be used, and a date by which the contents should be disposed. The date indicating device may include a plurality of resettable buttons, each of which may be located atop an individual platform. Both the buttons and the platforms may take on a variety of different shape.
