Abstract: An apparatus and process for making extruded colored thermoplastic resin sheets is shown and described. In this process, a colored thermoplastic sheet material is encapsulated within a clear material. The colored material as it merges with the clear material is subjected to a clear material flow direction vector which causes the colored material to spread or become wider than the color material orifice. The spreading due to clear material flows in a widthwise direction produces a uniform taper to the colored edge, and the point at which the colored material stops and the finished product is barely perceptible. In this apparatus, a clear flow thermoplastic extrusion die has placed within its manifold a colored material distributing inner pipe which has an orifice for inserting color material into the flow of the clear material. The color insertion occurs at a point where the clear material has a flow vector in the widthwise direction and towards the clear portion of the finished product.
Abstract: A method for the manufacture of thermoplastic resin sheets, including extruding molten thermoplastic resin at an extrusion velocity V through a slit provided in an extrusion mold so as to form thermoplastic resin sheets with embossed surfaces, wherein said thermoplastic resin is extruded from said slit in said extrusion mold under conditions such that the ratio V/H of said extrusion velocity V to the width H of said slit exceeds a critical value (V/H)c, said critical value (V/H)c being the ratio of the extrusion velocity to the width of the mold slit corresponding minimum value of the roughness of the embossment formed on the surface of said thermoplastic resin sheets, whereby defects such as the adhesion to and winding onto rollers, inferior appearance and sizing marks which are prone to occur when the sheets are embossed with embossing rollers.
Abstract: A particulate spacer for use in a liquid crystal display cell, electrochromic display device, or the like is provided. The particulate spacer comprises a core particle and a functional layer formed on the surface of the core particle.
Abstract: An underground pipe for a thrust boring method whereby the underground pipe is thrust through the ground, one being connected to another, while boring a horizontal tunnel through the ground. This invention also relates to a connecting construction of the underground pipe for the thrust boring method. The underground pipes are connected with each other directly or by means of a collar. A plurality of projecting lines are formed either on the collar or the pipe body. The lines extend continuously or discontinuously in the axial direction of the pipe with suitable spacing provided therebetween in the circumferential direction of the pipe.
