Abstract: Methods, computer program products and systems for identifying cellular constituents in a secondary tissue that serve as surrogate markers for a target gene expressed in a primary tissue of a species are provided. A classifier is constructed using cellular constituent abundances of cellular constituents in a first plurality of cellular constituents measured in the secondary tissue in a population. This population comprises a first and second subgroup. The classifier is based on a second plurality of cellular constituents that comprises all or a portion of the first plurality of cellular constituents. Abundance levels of each cellular constituent in the second plurality of cellular constituents varies between the first and second subgroup. All or portion of the population is classified into a plurality of subtypes using the classifier. Then, one or more cellular constituents that can discriminate members of the population between a first subtype and a second subtype in the plurality of subtypes are identified.

Abstract: A display section displays a speedometer having a substantially circular shape on an outer circumference of which a speed scale is provided. Then, that point on the outer circumference of the speedometer which indicates a speed at a moment is calculated. Further a speed that is attained at a given time period (e.g. 0.5 second) after the moment if the speed is increased at an acceleration at the moment is calculated. An arc-shaped pointer is displayed, the arc-shaped pointer passing (i) the calculated point of the speed scale, (ii) a middle point between the calculated point of the speed scale and a center of the speedometer, and (iii) the center of the speedometer. With this arrangement, a display device displaying the speedometer allows a driver to easily recognize the speed and an amount of a change therein (i.e. acceleration).

Abstract: An image forming apparatus and a method for cleaning a photoreceptor are realized that allow cleaning a surface of the photoreceptor to eliminate foreign substances adhering thereto, without using a special abrasive sheet. A recording sheet is fed and brought into contact with photoreceptors of all photoreceptor drums. The recording sheet is stopped by causing the vicinity of a rear end of the recording sheet to be sandwiched between a pair of registration rollers. Then, the photoreceptor drums are rotated. By this way, the cleaning is carried out to the photoreceptor.

The light-emitting circuit board of the present invention is a light-emitting circuit board comprising: on a board, a plurality of pixels each including a first electrode, a light-emitting layer, and a second electrode, stacked in this order; a driver circuit; and an external terminal, wherein the driver circuit is connected to the external terminal; the second electrode of the pixel and the external terminal are connected to each other by a wiring through an off-pixel contact; and the wiring is disposed to overlap with at least part of the driver circuit.
Abstract: A layer stack including an operating semiconductor layer and a low resistance semiconductor layer is patterned by using a first mask pattern so as to have an insular shape and then a circumferential sidewall of the layer stack whose top surface is covered by the first mask pattern is oxidized under a condition that at least ends of the first mask pattern which ends contacts the low resistance semiconductor layer are not positioned behind ends of the layer stack which ends contacts the first mask pattern, thereby forming a sidewall oxidized film only on the circumferential sidewall of the layer stack. After the first mask pattern is removed, an electrode/wiring layer is formed on the layer stack by using a second mask pattern, the electrode/wiring layer being electrically connected with the low resistance semiconductor layer and having the same shape as the low resistance semiconductor layer at a region where the insular operating semiconductor layer is formed.

Abstract: In conventional telephone services, methods of response to a call in cases where the destination caller cannot answer the call are limited, such as by playing back an answering machine message or transferring the call to another telephone system in a rigid manner. In such systems, there is no flexibility in choosing the manner of response depending on the situation of the destination caller. The example systems and methods described herein enable the response method to be automatically selected depending on user's current position information in an Internet telephone system in which voice data is transmitted and received via the Internet. The user registers response methods associated with network addresses in a database, and the user's current position is determined from the IP address.

Abstract: A liquid crystal display device (1) includes: a liquid crystal display panel (10) in which a liquid crystal layer (13) is provided between an active matrix substrate (11) and a counter substrate (12); and a backlight (20) which emits light toward the liquid crystal display panel (10). A peripheral region (R2) which is on a periphery of an image display region (R1) includes light sensors [16 (16a and 16b)] for detecting an external brightness of the liquid crystal display device (1). Light emitted from the backlight (20) has a transmittance of not more than a transmittance obtained during black display in the peripheral region (R2) in which the light sensors are provided, while the light sensors are detecting an external brightness of the liquid crystal display device (1). This allows a realization of a liquid crystal display device including light sensors which are less affected by stray light and are capable of detecting external light with higher accuracy.
