  • Patent number: 4533265
Abstract: A rolling bearing assembly fitted with seals for a bearing chamber between two relatively rotatable components of the assembly. Each seal is mounted on one of the components and has a resilient sealing lip in sliding contact with a sealing surface on the other component, the lip being deflected by the sealing surface in a direction away from the bearing chamber under normal running conditions. The side of the lip facing the chamber is formed with grooves arranged to permit air to flow past the seal in the event of the lip being drawn inwardly towards the bearing chamber by a reduced pressure therein. The side of the lip may be provided with ribs instead of grooves.

  • Patent number: 4531427
Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus incorporating a planetary gear set with a shaft (7) connected to a planet wheel support (6), and a shaft (8) connected to a sun wheel (5), one of the shafts (8) being connected to a rotor in a device (9) for providing a torque. In order to be able to use the apparatus in a favorable manner in for example a servo assisted system with a steering wheel (10) and a steering member actuated by the steering wheel via a step-up gear, the stator part of the device (9) for providing a torque is connected to the other one of the shafts (7) in the planetary gear so that this shaft takes up the reactive torque which is established in the device during operation.

  • Patent number: 4530610
Abstract: The invention related to a multiple-row roller bearing with a generally spherical outer ring raceway (2) and a guiding ring (5) between two rows of rollers, the guiding ring being centered in the bearing by contacting the outer ring raceway. In order to permit the part of the guiding ring which contact the rollers to be made of a material which is suitable from a wear and friction point of view, the guiding ring comprises an inner part (8) of such a suitable material. This part is closed and has a rotational symmetry, and its size allows it to be introduced into the outer ring of the bearing. An outer part (9) is arranged around the inner part and it can be mounted on the circumference of the inner part when the inner part is inserted in the outer ring of the bearing, whereby the outer ring fills up the space between the inner part and the raceway of the outer ring in at least some areas.

  • Patent number: 4526259
Abstract: In a hydraulically operable release arrangement for clutches, especially for vehicle clutches, the release force is transmitted to the plate spring or the like of the clutch by way of a piston, a fixed bearing ring, a multiplicity of rolling bodies, and a rotating bearing ring. The piston is movably arranged in a housing and is biased by a helical spring arranged in a pressure space formed between the piston and the housing. The piston and the housing are each provided with an axial projection. In order to secure the piston against rotation and to damp vibrations in the piston without additional machining or special parts, the helical spring is arranged with its spring ends abutting the axial projections such that rotation of the piston in the direction of rotation of the rotating bearing ring is prevented.

  • Patent number: 4526612
Abstract: Ferrosilicon is manufactured from a material containing silica and a raw material containing iron by injecting these materials, possibly together with a reducing agent, with the help of a carrier gas into a plasma gas. The silica and the iron raw material, possibly with the reducing agent, heated in this way are then introduced with the energy-rich plasma gas into a reaction chamber surrounded by a solid reducing agent in lump form, the silica thus being brought to the molten state, being reduced and reacting with the iron to form ferrosilicon.

  • Patent number: 4526556
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for releasably connecting two shafts (1,2). It comprises two co-operating tapered clamping sleeves (5,6) and means (7,8,9) for relatively displacing the sleeves axially when the sleeves are separated by a pressure medium introduced between the tapered clamping surfaces. In order to make the device suitable for connecting two shafts with a certain distance between the shaft ends, the length of the sleeves is greater than the sum of the lengths of the portions of the respective shafts which are covered by the sleeves, and the bore diameter of the outer sleeve is greater than the outer diameter of the inner sleeve in an area (13) between the ends of the sleeves corresponding to the area between the shaft ends.

  • Patent number: 4516962
Abstract: A tension roller for a drive belt is comprised of a two-part pin and a roller rotatably supported on the pin by a rolling bearing. One part of the pin is substantially solid and has a seating surface for receiving the inner ring of the rolling bearing. The other part of the pin is cup-shaped and extends over the seating surface to engage a side surface of the inner ring. An eccentric bore is provided in the pin for mounting the tension roller on a machine frame by means of a mounting screw. The eccentric bore, in the solid portion of the pin, extends to and separates the outer surface of the pin, whereby the mounting screw partially engages the inner ring of the bearing. The arrangement permits the maximum range of tension adjustments for the tension roller.
