Abstract: The present invention is directed to the manufacture and use of absorptive wound dressings for treatment of burns and other wounds wherein the dressing has a reduced tendency to adhere to the wound and can act as a bacterial barrier. The wound dressing is comprised of a wound facing layer, an intermediate absorbent layer and an outer layer. The wound dressing of the present invention also has a topically effective medicament for treatment of burns and other wounds.

Abstract: A wound dressing which comprises an absorbent layer comprising an open cell foam of a hydrophilic polymer and a wound facing layer comprising either a conformable net of elastomer coated with adhesive on its wound facing surface or an adhesive layer, pattern spread in a conformable net-like configuration, the dressing optionally also having a conformable moisture vapour transmitting outer layer; and a process for making said dressing.

Abstract: A pad for protecting female undergarments from light vaginal discharges is described in which pad a body liquid impermeable layer of pressure sensitive adhesive serves to prevent transmission of body liquids through the pad and also serves to adhere the pad to the undergarment.

Abstract: A hygienic absorbent pad is described which comprises an elongate absorbent core, a liquid pervious sheet over the front face of the absorbent core and a liquid absorbent core, which barrier sheet has longitudinal edge portions which cover the longitudinal sides of the absorbent, which longitudinal edge portions have a layer in contact with a surface thereof of a water absorbing polymer such as a hydrophilic polyurethane which is capable of inhibiting leakage of body fluids from the front surface of the absorbent pad to the sides thereof.

Abstract: A handle for use in an intravenous needle assembly in which the handle comprises a body portion being connected via hinge portions to oppositely extending wing sections. The body portion of the handle has at its distal end an insertion aid in the form of laterally extending horns against which pressure may be applied when introducing the point of the needle of the intravenous needle assembly which comprises a needle, a hub which rigidly holds the needle and a handle as described above which is mounted on the needle hub in a manner which allows free rotation of the needle hub within the handle.

Abstract: A disposable applicator for placing a pharmacologically active agent in contact with a moist body surface, especially the eye is in the form of an elongate strip disposed at one end of which is a soluble matrix element containing the pharmacologically active agent so that on contact with the moist body surface the matrix element separates from the remainder of the strip. In a preferred form the matrix element is attached to the remainder of the strip by a thin water soluble membrane which rapidly dissolves in body fluid thereby releasing the matrix element to the body surface. Processes for the preparation of the disposable applicators are also described.

Abstract: A dressing which comprises an ointment impregnated open-work support, having a protector on at least one face thereof characterized in that the protector is a film soluble in water, materials therefor and the manufacture thereof are described.

Abstract: A moisture vapor transmitting film comprising a blend of polyurethane and an incompatible polymer characterized in that the incompatible polymer forms a discrete phase within a continuous matrix of polyurethane and that said film contains voids and processes for the manufacture thereof.

Abstract: A substantially isotonic, aqueous solution suitable for the sterilization of soft contact lenses having small or no propensity to cause ocular irritation which solution comprises a sterile aqueous solution of 0.00125 to 0.0025% of a chlorhexidine salt and sufficient tonicity adjusting agent to render the solution substantially isotonic said tonicity adjusting agent not containing ionic species producing a tonicity equivalent to more than a 0.3% solution of sodium chloride.

Abstract: A sterile, non-irritant, non-toxic aqueous solution adapted for topical administration to the eye which contains 2,4,7-triamino-6-phenylpteridine rendered soluble by a solubilizing amount of a xanthine derivative. The composition may be used to treat ocular hypertension and glaucoma.

Abstract: The present invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions adapted for topical administration to the eye and to their preparation and use. More specifically this invention relates to anti-glaucoma ophthalmic compositions containing tetraazabicyclic compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, X and Y are hereinafter defined and to the preparation and use of such compositions.

The composition may be used to treat ocular inflammation.

Abstract: An adhesive polyacrylate which has a K value of 90 to 110 and contains 16% to 62% of n-butyl acrylate residues, 80% to 34% of 2-ethylhexyl acrylate residues and 4% to 10% acrylic acid residues, solutions thereof, surgical adhesive sheet materials coated therewith and their preparation are described.
