  • Patent number: 5170961
Abstract: A textile yarn carrier adapted to receive a yarn tail at the base thereof without breaking the yarn tail. The yarn carrier includes a body having an outer face about which yarn may be wrapped, an inner face, and an annular face at its bottom end. A plurality of adjacent, circumferentially oriented, semielliptical depressions are formed in the bottom face of the yarn carrier. Each depression extends from the outer face, radially across the bottom face, and upwardly along and into the inner face. In the preferred embodiment, the depressions are uniform in size and are spaced generally evenly around the periphery of the body, so that the bottom and inner faces of the yarn carrier are adapted to guide and receive a yarn tail in at least one yarn protecting depression on each side of the body. An end holder cap for mating with the bottom end of the textile yarn carrier is also provided.

  • Patent number: 5125604
Abstract: A system is provided for automatic consecutive opening and dispensing thermoplastic grocery or retail product bags of the T-shirt type while providing for supporting consecutive bags in an open position and for facilitating easy removal of the consecutive loaded bags. The system includes a pack of bags and a rack of the type having outwardly extending support arms and a retaining means for receiving the bag pack by mounting the bag handles on the support arms of the rack through apertures therein and mounting a detachable bag mounting tab on the rack retaining means. Each of the bags has disengageable adhesive between each bag which has a predetermined severance strength greater than the severance strength of the mounting tabs. The rack support arms define a predetermined resistive force in laterally-extending outer portions against sliding of the bags therealong which is greater than the severance strength of the adhesive.

  • Patent number: 5120294
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for forming a tubular yarn carrier of the type adapted to have a yarn wound thereon to form a yarn package, and which includes an inturned annular end portion which is adapted to support the carrier on an internal spindle of a winding machine. The method of forming the inturned annular end portion includes inwardly turning one end of a tubular body member and so as to cause the end to be inwardly turned about an arc of about 180.degree., and while concurrently guiding the inwardly turned end radially outwardly into contact with the inside wall surface of the tubular member. The method results in the formation of a frusto-conical end portion which essentially locks against the inside wall surface of the carrier and thus prevents the inturned end portion from opening up during use.

  • Patent number: 5106356
Abstract: The invention provides a method and apparatus for the manufacture of helically wound paperboard tubes having a highly uniform outside diameter. The method of the invention involves the application of controlled compressive force to at least one of the paperboard plies fed to a helical winding operation in order to control the thickness of the ply or plies and thereby control the outside diameter of the helically wound tube. In one preferred apparatus embodiment of the invention, the compressive force applied to the paperboard ply is applied via a pair of cooperating compression rolls. The nip between the two cooperating rolls is controllably varied by mounting one of the rolls for rotation about a shaft which is rotatable about an eccentric axis which is parallel to and offset from the axis of rotation of the roll. The rotation of the shaft thus causes the roll to move toward or away from the other cooperating roll and thereby varies the nip spacing between the rolls.

  • Patent number: 5105943
Abstract: A drum assembly for a wire coil comprising a paperboard drum with a paperboard bottom assembly including a bottom heading with a fixed length flexible strap extending diametrically thereacross and including an axially projecting loop. The loop is surrounded by an annular disc which overlies the end portions of the strap and is affixed to the bottom heading. The bottom heading assembly mounts to the lower open end of the drum. After the coil is received in the drum, the coil is overlaid by a diametrically extending bar which is compressively engaged against the upper end of the coil by an elastomeric cord engaged between the bottom strap loop and the bar.
