  • Patent number: 10264376
Abstract: Example techniques may involve assigning different properties to state variables that control operation of a playback device based on whether or not the playback device is placed upon a device base. An example implementation includes a playback device detecting, via a sensor, whether the playback device is placed onto a device base. If the playback device detects that the playback device is placed onto the device base, the playback device assigns one or more docked properties to the one or more state variables that control operation of the playback device. Otherwise, the playback device assigns one or more portable properties to the one or more state variables that control operation of the playback device.

  • Patent number: 10254822
Abstract: Techniques for controlling one or more audio amplifiers in or associated with a device coupled on a local area network are disclosed. An example playback device includes a processor, an amplifier, a network interface, and a memory. The memory includes a software module that, when executed by the processor, causes the playback device to: operate in a first power mode in which the amplifier consumes a first amount of power; while operating in the first power mode, determine that a defined time has passed since receiving, via the network interface, a specified type of data packet; and based on determining that the defined time has passed since receiving the specified type of data packet, transition from operating in the first power mode to operate in a second power mode in which the amplifier consumes a second amount of power, wherein the first amount of power is greater than the second amount of power.

  • Patent number: 10248724
Abstract: A first connection state may be entered on a computing device. While the computing device is in the first connection state, actions taken on a playlist on the computing device may be applied to the playlist and not applied to a playback queue associated with a zone. An input may be received via the computing device, indicating a selection of the zone. In response to receiving the input, a second connection state may be entered. Entering the second connection state may comprise establishing a connected state between the computing device and the one or more playback devices. While the connected state is established, one or more actions taken on the playlist on the computing device may be applied to the playlist and transmitted, in a message to the zone over a network. The one or more actions may be one or more corresponding actions applied to the playback queue.

  • Patent number: 10241504
Abstract: Examples described herein involve a playback device with an enclosure including a first external surface where out-ward facing speakers of the playback device are positioned and a second external surface substantially orthogonal to the first external surface, an array of proximity sensors underlying the second external surface of the playback device; and an orientation sensor. The playback device receives data user input, the user input comprising a first physical contact at a first location on the array of proximity sensors followed by a second physical contact at a second location on the array of proximity sensors; and in response to receiving the data, causes a playback volume of the playback device to change. The playback volume increases if the orientation sensor indicates that the enclosure is in a first orientation and decrease if the orientation sensor indicates that the enclosure is in a second orientation.

  • Patent number: 10241742
Abstract: Method and systems are provided for identification of device groups in a network. In an example implementation, a first playback device, while in a first zone group comprising the playback device, the first zone group having a group identification identifying the first zone group, receives an instruction to form a zone group with one or more second playback devices. In response, the first playback device forms a second zone group with the one or more second playback devices. Forming the second zone group involves determining a group identification identifying the second zone group and determining a display name representing the second zone group. In response, the first playback device causes a controller device to update a control interface for the media playback system to display an indication of the second zone group, the indication of the second zone group comprising the determined display name.

  • Patent number: 10231010
Abstract: In an example implementation, a system groups a first playback device and a second playback device into first player group. The system associates the first player group with a first playback queue that includes items for playback by the first player group. The first and second playback devices are configured to play items from the first playback queue while in the first player group. The system associates a third playback device with a second playback queue that includes items for playback by the second playback device. Thereafter, the system groups the first, second and third playback devices to form a second player group such that each of the first, second, and third playback devices are configured to play items from the second playback queue. The system removes the first playback device from the second player group and automatically associates the first playback device with the first playback queue.
