Abstract: A novel composite high-nitrile fiber in which the polymers are arranged in a sheath core type configuration. One polymer of the composite filament contains a solventless, waterless, melt-processable acrylonitrile olefinically unsaturated polymer and the other polymer of the composite filament contains an organic polymer. Either polymer can be employed as the sheath or the core component of the composite filament.

Abstract: An ion drag vacuum pump is installed in a body, one side of which is connected to and in communication with a sealed chamber. An ion generating device and a positive ion dragging device for dragging positive ions generated by the ion generating device to exhaust gases located near the ions by speeding up the ions is disposed in the body. The positive ions are neutralized by a positive ion neutralizing device. The ion generating device includes a corona electrode as a corona discharger to which a positive voltage is applied, a metal plate as a DC glow discharger to which a positive DC voltage is applied, or a first RF electrode and a second RF electrode to which RF power is applied. The ion dragging device includes a target electrode or a first and a second grids to which a positive and a negative voltage are respectively applied. The ion neutralizing device includes a grounded baffle plate.

Abstract: A circuit and method for detecting an edge of the carrier frequency of received data from a remote IR communications device by an Infrared Communications Controller is disclosed. During the receiving of IR signals from a remote IR communications device such as, for example, a TV, VCR or stereo, a frequency window of frequencies above and below a predetermined carrier frequency is opened. If the edge of the carrier frequency of the received data falls within the frequency window, communications are established between the IrCC and the remote IR communications device. If the negative edge of the carrier frequency of the received data does not fall in the frequency window of frequencies, then the system aborts communications. Provisions are made for a ten percent (10%), a twenty percent (20%) frequency window, and a forty percent (40%) frequency window. Other configurations combining various percentage frequency windows are also disclosed as well as methods for generating the frequency windows.
Abstract: A method and a device for continuously forming a heat exchanger that has a helically wound fin tube coil formed by a plurality of wraps. The device includes a rotationally driven mandrel with a central axis and a plurality of forming corners equiangularly disposed about and displaced from the central axis. The rotation of the mandrel is about the central axis in order to wind the fin tube coils onto the mandrel. A forming block is operably rotationally coupled to the mandrel and rotates with the mandrel. The forming block is also slideably engaged with the mandrel for axial translation a selected distance with respect to the mandrel. The forming block guides the winding of the fin tub coils onto the mandrel. An actuator is operably coupled to the forming block and causes the axial translation of the forming block.
Abstract: A process for the recovery of unreacted ammonia from the reactor effluent obtained from a reaction zone used to produce acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile comprising quenching the reactor effluent with an aqueous solution of ammonium phosphate wherein the ratio of ammonium ions to phosphate ions in the solution is between about 0.7 to about 1.3, preferably between about 0.9 to 1.2.
