Abstract: Disclosed herein are fiducial markers that include a sealed casing member containing a mixture of iodine and water that includes about 1-300 mg/ml iodine. The fiducial markers may be distinguishable on at least two imaging modalities, such as CT and MRI. The casing member may include a plastic or elastomeric material, such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) polypropylene, latex, nylon, dynaflex, and may take the form of a length of IV tubing sealed at each of two ends. The length of IV tubing may be crimped to form a desired shape, such as a triangle. Also disclosed are methods of making fiducial markers that are distinguishable on at least two imaging modalities, such as CT and MRI.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure involve systems, methods, and the like, for a fabrication of a particulate matter (PM) sensor that utilizes a capacitance sensor to detect sub-micrometer and nanoparticles in the respirable range of an environment. In one implementation, the capacitance sensor may comprise interdigitated electrodes between which a capacitance may be measured. PM deposited on the sensor may cause the capacitance between the electrodes to be altered and such a change in capacitance may be measured by the PM sensor. This measurement of the change in capacitance of the interdigitated capacitance sensor may therefore be correlated to the presence of sub-micrometer and nanoparticles in an environment. In one particular implementation, the PM sensor may further include a micro-heater circuit, a readout circuit, and an interface connecting the readout circuit to the micro-heater/capacitance sensor of the PM sensor.

Abstract: A system and method for detecting, amplifying, and sorting non-transitory signals stemming from cellular activity of tissue in an extracellular medium is presented herein. Weak signals are difficult to detect, especially when they originate far from the measuring electrode. The invention takes advantage of stochastic resonance, i.e. adding noise to signals to amplify them and make them more detectable, to improve signal detection from a single electrode.

Abstract: Provided are embodiments of a position-adaptive lighting system comprising a pantilt adjustable housing enclosing a digital imaging system and a lens module operably connected to a computer-based digital control unit, a lamp, and a position indicator detectable by the digital camera system and the computer-based digital control unit. The position-adaptive lighting system can adjustably direct a light beam to provide illumination of an object to which the position indicator is attached. The system is advantageous for providing a directed light to a surgical site and accommodate the movement of the position indicator on a surgeons hand or instrument.

Abstract: Fabricating a layer including lithium lanthanum zirconate (Li7La3Zr2O12) layer includes forming a slurry including lanthanum zirconate (La2Zr2O7) nanocrystals, a lithium precursor, and a lanthanum precursor in stoichiometric amounts to yield a dispersion including lithium, lanthanum, and zirconium. In some cases, the dispersion includes lithium, lanthanum, and zirconium in a molar ratio of 7:3:2. In certain cases, the slurry includes excess lithium. The slurry is dispensed onto a substrate and dried. The dried slurry is calcined to yield the layer including lithium lanthanum zirconate.

Abstract: A composition for dry reagent colorimetric sensing of nanoparticles in aqueous media, including sodium borohydride (NaBH4), methylene blue (MB), and 4-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1-piperazineethanesulfonic acid (HEPES) in the form of a powdered mixture. The composition may be formed by combining MB, HEBES, and water to yield an aqueous mixture, removing water from the aqueous mixture to yield a solid mixture, and combining NaBH4 powder with the solid mixture to yield the composition. The composition may be used to detect metallic nanoparticles an aqueous solution by combining the composition with an aqueous solution to yield a test solution, and assessing a concentration of the metallic nanoparticles in the test solution based on absorbance of light by the test solution. The composition may be provided in an assay kit for sensing nanoparticles in aqueous media.

Abstract: A method for a dynamic inductive wireless power transmission includes providing an AC/DC power converter that receives three-phase power and provides regulated DC output current, connecting a trunk cable to the AC/DC power converter output and to multiple power transmitter modules. The trunk cable connects inputs of the power transmitter modules in series. The power transmitter modules transmit inductive wireless power over an air gap. The method includes providing a system controller that detects a vehicle containing a receiver coil and confirms if the vehicle should receive the inductive wireless power from the multiple power transmitter modules, and includes configuring the system controller to communicate with the AC/DC power converter to maintain the regulated DC output current at a constant value and transmit the inductive wireless power to the vehicle through the multiple power transmitter modules when the vehicle should receive the inductive wireless power.
Abstract: Provided are the herbicide-tolerant, aromatic (jasmine) rice cultivar designated ‘CLJ01’ and its hybrids and derivatives. The present invention provides a method for controlling weeds in the vicinity of rice, comprising contacting the rice with an herbicide, wherein said rice belongs to any of (a) variety ‘CLJ01’ or (b) a hybrid, derivative, or progeny of ‘CLJOV that expresses the imidazolinone herbicide resistance characteristics of ‘CLJOV. In some embodiments, the rice plants of the present invention include plants that comprise an AHAS mutant polypeptide that confers an increased tolerance to an imidazolinone herbicide when compared to a wild-type rice plant.
