The support can be pivoted from a position behind the chair to a position wherein a forehead strap engages the anterior portion of the head to hold the head adjacent a headrest pad. The forehead strap is attached to slide along one or more head bands which extend around the head to allow the head to turn without loss of support.

Abstract: A coupling having, among other things, a body including a valve movable from a first position to a second position. The valve has an oxygen passageway in communication with a first inlet for a flow of oxygen to the oxygen passageway when the valve is in the first position. The valve has a second inlet for a flow of oxygen to the oxygen passageway when the valve is in the second position.

Abstract: An energy efficient oxygen concentrator for filling high pressure portable cylinders with medical oxygen for use by ambulatory patients. Two compressors provide two pressurized air sources, one for operating an oxygen concentrator to provide a stream of oxygen enriched gas, and the other for driving a pressure intensifier for filling portable oxygen cylinders. Pressurized exhaust from the pressure intensifier is returned to the inlet side of at least one of the compressors for reducing the energy required to drive the compressor. Preferably, each compressor has a single reciprocating piston, a single motor drives both pistons and the pressurized exhaust from pressure intensifier is provided to the inlets for both compressors.

Abstract: A personal mobility vehicle includes a power-driven base unit that supports a suspension system. The suspension system includes a front suspension arm that supports a front caster wheel and includes a suspension stop. A drive unit is pivotally supported on the base unit by a torque arm. The torque arm selectively disengages the suspension stop to allow movement of the front caster wheel in response to the terrain traversed.

Abstract: An energy efficient oxygen concentrator in which a compressor applies pressurized air to at least two gas separating elements which will pass a flow of oxygen while blocking a flow of nitrogen. The gas separating elements are alternately cycled between a gas separating mode for producing oxygen enriched gas and a purge mode for purging nitrogen from the elements. According to the invention, the speed of the cycle time is increased as the oxygen enriched gas flow requirement is decreased below the maximum concentrator output. The higher cycle speed reduces the maximum compressor pressure to reduce energy consumption.

At least one of the mating members has a generally curved radial surface that is engageable with the other mating members to lock together the backrest with respect to frame.

Abstract: A foldable wheelchair comprises a substantially horizontally extending upper side frame member. An upper end of an axle plate is secured to the upper side frame member. An axle housing is secured to the axle plate. A cross brace is pivotally secured directly to the axle plate at the lower end of the axle plate. A wheel mount assembly comprises an axle sleeve mount having an internal thread. An axle sleeve has an external thread that is in threaded engagement with the internal thread of the axle sleeve mount. The axle sleeve has an internal bore that accepts a wheel axle. The internal bore is angled with respect to the axis of the external threads to provide camber to a wheel. The axle sleeve is adapted to provide lateral adjustment to the wheel by rotating the axle sleeve within the axle sleeve mount any number of complete revolutions.

The caster swivel post is being adapted to rotate about a pivot axis within a cylindrical housing. Alternatively, the wheel assembly has an adjustable axle for varying the camber angle of a wheel. The wheel assembly comprises a housing and an axle supported by the housing. The axle in turn rotatably supports a wheel. The axle is adapted to rotate about a pivot axis within a cylindrical housing.

Abstract: A control system for a personal mobility vehicle has a menu structure that can be ordered so that commonly used areas of the menu are grouped together, thus avoiding the need to frequently navigate through seldom-used portions of a standard menu structure.

Abstract: A level on a wheelchair allows the cambered rear wheels to be easily adjusted to eliminate toe-in/toe-out. The level comprises a ball encased in a curved track. The curve track is formed in a clear housing that mounts to the underside of a wheelchair camber tube or wheel axle. The camber tube or wheel axle is rotated until the ball aligns with an indicator mark indicating that toe-in/out has been eliminated from the cambered wheels.

Abstract: An angle adjustable camber assembly is adapted to support the wheel of a wheelchair having a seat, the rear of which is at a given rear seat height. The assembly comprises a movable member for supporting the wheel. The movable member is adapted to translate and rotate so as to be able to selectively position the wheel at any one of a variety of camber angles while substantially maintaining the rear seat height and a spacing between the top of the wheel and the seat frame.

A caster fork is supported for rotation relative to the caster swivel post and rotatably supports a caster wheel. The caster swivel post is adapted selectively pivot about the pivot axis that is transverse to the caster swivel post or be held in a substantially fixed position. A setscrew can be threadable into an upper end of a pivot nut to hold the pivot nut and thus the caster swivel post in a fixed position within the housing.

Abstract: A nasal mask for applying pressurized gas to a user's respiratory system. The mask includes an inflatable seal which is at least partially filled with a soft open cell foam. The seal includes a manual pump and a pressure release valve for inflating and deflating the seal. The mask includes an brow bar which is connected through a bridge to the mask body. The bridge can be adjusted to position the brow bar against the user's forehead for supporting an upper portion of the mask. Headgear for attaching the mask to the user is attached to the brow bar and is looped over a prong at a lower portion of the mask for securing the lower portion of the mask to the user. The mask can be easily removed from the patient while leaving the headgear and brow bar attached to the user.

A method for carrying the pressure-distributing medium in a personal mobility vehicle cushion comprises the steps of providing a cushion cover having a pocket, inserting a pressure-distributing medium in the pocket, and inserting a base in the cover so that the pressure-distributing medium is positioned above the base.

This allows for a much greater degree of customization of the control system for an individual user and allows inputs to be matched to different outputs to suit the individual users needs more optimally.

Abstract: A fire barrier for preventing fire from advancing along an oxygen delivery hose towards a source of oxygen. The fire barrier includes a non-combustible tube having hose fittings attached to opposite ends of the tube. The fire barrier is inserted in series in the oxygen delivery hose. The hose fittings are sufficiently spaced apart to prevent a fire advancing along the hose to the barrier from igniting the hose attached to the opposite end of the fire barrier. Supports may be provided for supporting the hose fittings above a floor or other support surface for the oxygen barrier.
