  • Patent number: 9909697
Abstract: A pipe coupling for connecting together the ends of two pipes including a tubular casing for fitting around a pipe; tensioning means for tightening the casing around the outer surface of the pipe; and a dynamic axial restraint system comprising at least one resilient gripping ring mounted within the casing for gripping the outer surface of the pipe. The gripping ring includes an outer surface engaging with an inner surface of the casing and adapted to roll against the inner surface of the casing upon axial loading of the pipe; and an inner gripping surface for engaging the outer surface of the pipe. The gripping surface of the resilient gripping ring is adapted such that upon rolling of the outer surface against the inner surface of the tubular casing, the area of the gripping surface in contact with the pipe increases.

  • Patent number: 8430432
Abstract: A pipe coupling with an anchoring arrangement for locking the pipes together axially. The anchoring arrangement comprises a tubular casing, a frusto-conical gripping ring with inwardly projecting gripping teeth and tensioning bolts for tightening the casing about the frusto-conical gripping ring. The frusto-conical gripping ring is formed of a plurality of arcuate segments which overlap to form a complete ring. By forming the gripping ring of segments, the gripping ring is able to adapt to pipes that are not truly circular in cross section and a better grip on the pipe may be achieved than with a single-piece gripping ring.

  • Patent number: 7490866
Abstract: An anchoring device for a pipe coupling including an annular channel of generally U-shaped cross-section. The channel has a web portion with flanges and projecting radially inwardly. A frusto-conical gripping ring is located in the channel with its outer edge inside the web portion adjacent one of the flanges and its inner edge adjacent the other flange and projecting inwardly beyond this latter flange. The annular channel forms an incomplete ring and is compressible circumferentially. The anchoring device is fitted inside a clamping device, which fits around a pipe coupling. The clamping device has a tensioning for tightening the clamping device around the pipe, compressing the annular channel and causing the inner edge of the frusto-conical gripping ring to engage the outer surface of the pipe and thus grip the pipe.

  • Patent number: 7396053
Abstract: A pipe coupling (11) comprises a tubular casing (12) and a sealing gasket (13), which fit over the ends of the pipes to be coupled. The casing (12) is formed from a strip of rolled steel into a cylindrical shape, with a longitudinal gap (14). The free ends of the strip, which forms the casing, are bent outwardly to form radially projecting flange (15) along opposite edges of the longitudinal gap (14). The outer ends of the flanges (15) are bent back at right angles to form stiffening flanges (16) along the longitudinal outer edges of the flanges (15). A bridging member (18) fits inside the casing so as to span the longitudinal gap. Tensioning screw bolts (25) pass through reinforcing plate's (20) and the flange (15). A hexagonal nut (34) is threaded onto the end of each screw bolt. The nuts fit into the channel but are prevented from turning. The heads (35) of the bolts have a hexagonal recess to take an Allen key so that they can be tightened to clamp the coupling around the pipe ends.

  • Patent number: 6971413
Abstract: A pipe clamp 10 for repairing an underwater pipe. The pipe clamp 10 comprises a plurality of part-cylindrical portions 12,14,16 hinged together along a hinge axis or axes 27 along adjacent longitudinal edges 17,18. Two or the longitudinal edges 20,21 of the part-cylindrical portions are free. The part-cylindrical portions 12,14,16 are movable about the hinge axis or axes 27 towards and away from one another between an open position in which the free longitudinal edges 20,21 are spaced apart and the clamp 10 can be placed around a pipe and a closed position in which, in use, the free longitudinal edges 20,21 of the part-cylindrical portions 12,14,16 are brought together around the pipe. Fastening means are provided for holding the free edges 20,21 of the part-cylindrical portions 12,14,16 together, such that, in use, the clamp 10 is held to the pipe.

  • Patent number: 5772257
Abstract: A pipe coupling 1 for connecting together two pipes in a fluid-tight manner comprising an outer tubular casing 10, an inner tubular casing 20 and a tubular sealing sleeve 30. The sealing sleeve 30 has two sets of inwardly projecting ribs 32, which in use, are pressed into sealing engagement with the respective ends of the pipes. The inner and outer casings are longitudinally split and tensioning screws 17 on the outer casing can be tightened to tighten the outer casing around the inner casing and the sealing sleeve. Frusto-conical gripping rings 40 grip the pipes by engaging radial abutment surfaces facing away from the pipe ends and positioned close to the ends of said pipes in order to secure the pipes against axial displacement.

  • Patent number: 5056833
Abstract: A resiliently flexible pipe coupling for interconnecting two pipe ends in a pressure-tight manner includes a tubular sealing sleeve of resilient flexible material, and an adjustable tubular metal casing for clamping the sealing sleeve around the pipe ends. The sealing sleeve includes a tubular web portion and sealing lips integral with the web portion. The sealing lips are formed in adjoining relationship relative to the web portion and define free ends of the sealing sleeve. The sealing lips extend radially inwardly from the web portion and are spaced apart longitudinally. Each sealing lip includes a radially inner pipe-engaging surface for engaging one of the pipe ends, and the pipe-engaging surface of one of the lips has a substantially different internal diameter from the pipe-engaging surface of the other lip, whereby the coupling is adapted to connect two pipe ends of different external diameter.
