  • Patent number: 6410360
Abstract: The present invention discloses a laminate-based electromechanical device and a method of fabricating laminate-based electromechanical devices. The device includes two or more layers of laminate bonded together to form a unitary laminate structure. The layers of laminate include a layer of organic dielectric material that may have at least a portion of one layer of electrically conductive material adherent thereto. The layers of organic dielectric material are bonded to form a unitary laminate structure through a process of lamination. The structures that make up the electromechanical device may be formed either before or after bonding. In particular, the various electromechanical structures that make up the electromechanical device are formed from the layers of organic dielectric material and the layers of electrically conductive material adherent thereto using a predetermined sequence of additive and subtractive fabrication techniques.

  • Patent number: 6247929
Abstract: A hand piece assembly for an oral irrigator having a pressure control valve assembly, a stop valve, and a housing. The pressure control valve assembly has a valve body having an intermediate section having a substantially cylindrical bore therethrough. A valve gate having a cylindrical portion with an orifice bored therethrough has a control arm coupled to a guide portion for rotation within the valve body. A slide control is positioned on the housing and is coupled to guide portion of the valve gate, so that as the slide control moves linearly along a portion of the housing, the cylindrical portion of the valve gate correspondingly rotates within the bore of the valve body to adjust the pressure or flow rate of the fluid passing through the pressure control valve assembly.

  • Patent number: 6164569
Abstract: A flexible shower arm assembly that allows the user to repeatably adjust the position of the shower head in three dimensions by configuring the shape of the shower arm attached between the water source, such as a shower pipe, and the water dispenser, such as a shower head. The particular position of the shower head, and the direction of the shower spray, can be modified by re-configuring the shape of the shower arm. The flexible shower arm holds the desired position until modified by the user. The flexible shower arm is sealingly attached to the shower pipe by a pipe connector nut, and is sealingly and pivotally attached to the shower head by a connection structure. The flexible shower arm assembly includes an elongated flexible member defining a fluid transfer path, the flexible member having a first end and an opposite second end.

  • Patent number: 6136114
Abstract: Gas generant compositions are disclosed that generally include an a fuel source including a compound having a fuel portion and a fuel oxidizing portion, a fuel oxidizer, and a borohydride catalyst of the oxidation of said fuel portion by said fuel oxidizing portion and said fuel oxidizer to produce gaseous reaction products. In preferred compositions the fuel source is comprised of the elements nitrogen, carbon, hydrogen and water and combusted to produce N.sub.2, CO.sub.2 and H.sub.2 O as the primary reaction products. Preferably, the fuel oxidizer is a metal nitrate, and particularly potassium nitrate, because the potassium will generally be included in solid products and not in the form of a potentially harmful gas. It is also preferred that the combustion reaction be catalyzed using borohydrides. Potassium borohydrides, such as K.sub.2 B.sub.12 H.sub.12 and K.sub.2 B.sub.10 H.sub.10, are particularly preferred.

  • Patent number: 6127007
Abstract: A camouflage covering having a porous underlayer such as a knit mesh of 90% open area, and a plurality of dangling elements each having a base portion that is joined to and extends essentially transversely out from the porous underlayer. The dangling elements are arranged so as to essentially cover the porous underlayer so as to present a covering that has depth and provides a loft effect. The dangling elements are preferably strips having a low emissivity (0.02-0.50) inner layer and an external coating, which is thermally transparent but supports pigments that provide a visual and near infrared radiation signature suppression effect.

  • Patent number: 6118660
Abstract: An electronic assembly having one or more heat producing semiconductor components in the form of a chip or die has improved heat dissipation properties. The semiconductor components are formed into subassemblies comprising one or more of the semiconductor components bonded on opposite planar surfaces to metal lead frames. Each lead frame is bonded to a substrate which is electrically insulating and thermally conductive. The resulting assembly is submerged into a central channel of a heat sink. The channel is adapted to receive the assembly such that the channel walls compressingly engage the assembly. Heat is thereby dissipated from the semiconductor components from both planar surfaces of the component.

  • Patent number: 6106767
Abstract: Nickel-base alloys with improved elevated temperature creep and stress rupture lives are disclosed which are particularly useful for components in gas turbine engines exposed to high temperatures and stresses for long periods of time. The alloys are nickel-based consisting essentially of 0.005 to 0.15% C, 0.10 to 11% Mo, 0.10 to 4.25% W, from 12 to 31% Cr, 0.25 to 21% Co, up to 5% Fe, 0.10 to 3.75% Nb, 0.10 to 1.25% Ta, 0.01 to 0.10% Zr, 0.10 to 0.50% Mn, 0.10 to 1% V, l.8-4.75% Ti, 0.5 to 5.25% Al, less than 0.003% P, and 0.004 to 0.025% B. Key to the improvement of creep and stress rupture lives is the extremely low P content in conjunction with high B contents.

  • Patent number: 6106705
Abstract: A totalization meter system for a water treatment device, the device having an inlet aperture and an outlet aperture, and a channel for channeling water between the inlet and outlet apertures. A flow reactive device is positioned in the channel and is exposed to the flowing water, and a signal generating member is positioned on the flow reactive device. A switch is positioned proximately to the flow reactive device, and is sensitive to the proximity of the signal generating member. The switch is able to communicate electric signals indicative of the motion of the signal generating member. A resettable processor having a performance threshold programmed therein and an output device is included. The microcontroller is in electrical communication with the switch for receiving electrical signals from the switch. The switch is capable of sensing the characteristics of the flow reactive device and communicates electrical signals representative of the characteristics to the microcontroller.

  • Patent number: 6073595
Abstract: An in-line opposed cylinder engine constructed of a pair of half blocks which when combined form a pair of spaced cylinder heads and an intermediate crankcase and in which the cylinder heads and the intermediate crankcase are tied together by a plurality of spaced elongated through bolts which extend through the cylinder heads and through the half blocks. Each cylinder head is integral with the remainder of the half block and is preferably of a composite construction with a core of steel or the like which forms the cylinder bore, the firing deck, the exhaust ports and the valve guide as well as the main bearing supports. A matrix structure of lighter material such as aluminum is cast around the core and forms the induction air passages to the intake ports, the coolant passages, oil passages, and the main bearing bosses.

  • Patent number: 6045367
Abstract: A pin grid array includes a base having a first surface and a second surface which is substantially parallel thereto. The base is formed with a plurality of apertures which open through the base, and a plurality of electrical connectors are mounted on the base. Specifically, the connectors are formed with a central portion, and each connector has two deflectable fingers which extend in opposite directions from this central portion. The central portion of the connector is embedded into the base to cantilever the fingers into juxtaposed apertures. When they are not deflected, one finger of the connector projects outwardly from its aperture and beyond the first surface of the base, while the other finger projects outwardly from its aperture and beyond the second surface of the base. In a plurality of apertures, one finger projects one way and another finger projects the other way.
