Publication number: 20150119917Abstract: An endoscopic vessel harvester includes a vessel keeper for capturing a target vessel within a tunnel that has been dissected along the target vessel. A cutter member cuts and cauterizes side branches while the target vessel is slidably captured in the vessel keeper. A spray nozzle carried by the vessel keeper delivers a preservative fluid via a manual control valve and a conduit. The preservative fluid is sprayed on the target vessel proximate a respective side branch immediately after being cauterized. Thus, a harvested vessel is bathed in preservative fluid prior to being actually removed from the body, enhancing endothelial preservation from cascading events.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 28, 2013Publication date: April 30, 2015Applicant: Terumo Cardiovascular Systems CorporationInventor: Randal J. Publication number: 20120232495Abstract: A system for clamping a tube includes a Bowden cable with an inner member and an outer casing. A first jaw element has a first tube abutment surface, a passage, and a first sliding latch portion. The inner member of the Bowden cable passes through the passage. A second jaw element has a second tube abutment surface, a cable guide, and a second sliding latch portion. The inner member has a first end which is held in the mated sliding latch portions so that sliding of the inner member results in selectably positioning the first and second tube abutment surfaces together or spaced apart. An actuator is coupled to a second end of the outer casing and a second end of the inner member for applying a force to slide the inner member within the outer casing, the passage, and the cable guide. The Bowden cable substantially isolates the tube being clamped from the weight of the actuator.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 7, 2011Publication date: September 13, 2012Applicant: TERUMO CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEMS CORPORATIONInventor: Zachary A. Publication number: 20120071736Abstract: A blood parameter measurement cassette or other device is configured to control incidental liquid discharged during the device's calibration process. The cassette includes optical sensors which are chemically responsive to blood constituents and require calibration with a blood parameter monitoring device prior to use in a medical procedure. During the calibration process, an incidental amount of a liquid may be expelled from the cassette. The present invention is directed towards controlling the expelled liquid by absorbing it using an absorbent material disposed on the exterior of the cassette's main body. The absorbent material thereby prevents the liquid from causing detrimental effects to the monitoring and calibration equipment used in conjunction with the cassette. The scope includes additional embodiments wherein the inventive concept is applied to other fluid-handling medical devices that require venting of gases.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 22, 2010Publication date: March 22, 2012Applicant: Terumo Cardiovascular Systems CorporationInventors: Charles A. Publication number: 20100292533Abstract: A bipolar cutter has a cutter main body for inserting into the interior of a body and a treating electrode that is positioned against an object of examination (such as a blood vessel or a bleeding site) to be electrically cut and cauterized. A guiding member guides the object of examination toward the treating electrode as it is displaced in the axial direction of the cutter main body. The guiding member is comprised of a pair of protruding members and a notched groove or gap that leads to the treating electrode while in a first configuration. A gap adjusting mechanism causes the guiding member or the treating electrode to be displaced in the axial direction to reduce or eliminate the length of the gap so that the treating electrode can better reach flat tissue surfaces for treatment.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 14, 2009Publication date: November 18, 2010Applicants: TERUMO CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEMS CORPORATION, OLYMPUS MEDICAL SYSTEMS CORPORATIONInventors: Hideyuki Kasahara, Ken Yamatani, Randal J. Patent number: 7706853Abstract: A NIRS sensor device for brain monitoring is small in size, provides reliable attachment to a patient, blocks ambient light, is easy to use, is hygienic, and supports data integration with surgical and monitoring systems. The sensor device is coupled to a remote near infrared light source via a hybrid cable. Since the light source is remotely located, a source adapted for providing high energy, short pulses can easily be used so that there is less chance of interference by superficial non-brain tissues and less interference from ambient light. In addition, the remote location avoids changes in output of local light sources experienced in the prior art during hypothermia procedures (e.g., bandwidth shifts in LEDs as a result of lowered temperature). The higher energy may be achieved by the use of laser diodes as opposed to locally-mounted LEDs typically used in the prior art.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 2006Date of Patent: April 27, 2010Assignee: Terumo Cardiovascular Systems CorporationInventors: Thomas G.
