Patent number: 5216288Abstract: A control circuit for a sump pump or other pump that controls the liquid level in a vessel. The liquid is maintained between upper and lower levels defined by probes in the vessel. The probes are associated with comparators and connect with one comparator input. The upper limit comparator connects with the gate of an SCR which supplies current to the lower limit comparator and also to a relay which controls the on/off condition of the pump. The output of the lower limit comparator controls a switching transistor which is arranged in a series circuit with the SCR and relay coil. Once the SCR is conductive, it is latched in the conductive state until the transistor is made nonconductive by the lower limit comparator. In a sump pump application, latching of the SCR allows the pump to remain activated after the liquid level is reduced below the upper probe.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1991Date of Patent: June 1, 1993Assignee: The Marley CompanyInventor: James L. Patent number: 5207562Abstract: A submersible pump such as a sump pump or sewage pump has a handle which also serves to provide electrical connections and an oil port. The handle has two barrels which extend through the top of the pump casing and receive nuts which secure the handle on the pump. O-rings are provided beneath flanges on the barrels for sealing purposes. Retainers for the O-rings hold them beneath the flanges. One barrel has electrical terminal pins molded into it. A power cord can be connected with the pins by inserting a plug on the cord into a socket on the barrel. Within the pump casing, the terminal pins are connected with wiring for the motor. An external float switch controls the on and off conditions of the motor. The second barrel provides an oil passage which may be closed by a removable threaded plug.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1992Date of Patent: May 4, 1993Assignee: The Marley CompanyInventors: Dennis W. Patent number: 5015152Abstract: A sump pump powered by a rechargeable battery has a circuit for monitoring the battery voltage and controlling charging of the battery. Four comparators monitor the battery and control two flip flops one of which operates the pump in cooperation with a float switch and the other of which turns the battery charging circuit on and off. The circuit is arranged so that when the battery is in its discharge cycle, the float switch controls the pump and the charging circuit comes on only when the battery voltage is in a low range. In the charging cycle, the pump is locked out in a low voltage range of the battery and is controlled by the float switch only in a high voltage range.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 1989Date of Patent: May 14, 1991Assignee: The Marley CompanyInventor: James L. Patent number: 4876530Abstract: A microprocessor based system for detecting leaks from underground gasoline storage tanks and the product lines through which the gasoline is pumped to above ground dispensers. Hydrocarbon sensitive probes spaced around the tank in monitoring wells detect gasoline leakage from the tank. Each probe can be independently programmed as to the threshold hydrocarbon concentration considered to be indicative of a leak. Pressure transducers sense the product line pressure and distinguish thermally induced contraction from true leaks by comparing the time required for a preselected pressure drop to occur during successive cycles. A time comparison is also used to detect the presence of excessive air in the product line. An alarm condition sensed by either type of sensor generates audible and visible alarm signals and automatically dials a programmed telephone number. The alarm times and dates are stored in memory and may be called up on the display screen.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1987Date of Patent: October 24, 1989Assignee: The Marley CompanyInventors: Wayne E.
