  • Publication number: 20100324107
Abstract: The present invention refers to the use of phthalimide and/or sulphonamide derivatives with nitric oxide donor properties, which have important activities in increasing the gamma-globin gene expression and anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities, effective in the treatment of hematologic diseases which require reducing the TNF-? levels and an exogenous source of nitric oxide. More particularly, the present invention describes the use of such phthalimide and/or sulphonamide derivatives for the treatment of sickle-cell disease. The invention also has as a novel characteristic the disclosure of new functionalized phthalimide derivatives designed from the prototypes thalidomide and hydroxyurea, and designed rationally through the strategy of molecular hybridization for the treatment of said diseases.

  • Patent number: 7517983
Abstract: The present invention describes a process to form hydrazides from the reaction of a hydrazine and a dicarboxylic, using a Lewis acid as a main reagent of the reaction. The reaction occurs in a safe reactional environment, utilizing smooth conditions, neither involving high temperatures nor high pressures, producing the desired products with high yields, between 90-95%. The invention also describes a kit for utilization of chemiluminescent substances, comprised of two solutions.

  • Patent number: 7240230
Abstract: The present invention refers to a global clock system for clusters or networks of computers implemented entirely in hardware. The system uses a specifically designed hierarchical network to distribute clock pulses that are used to increment time counters in the cluster' nodes. In addition, this network enables any node of the cluster to send a reset signal to the other nodes so that all local time counters are initialized simultaneously and remain automatically synchronized afterwards. In this way, each processor in the cluster is able to obtain the value of the global clock whenever accessing its own local time counter. The reset signal is the only function that is implemented in software.

  • Publication number: 20060293388
Abstract: The present invention describes the use of pomolic acid, its derivatives and pharmaceutical preparations derived from them as anti-neoplasic agents in the treatment of multidrug resistant tumors. In relation to other drugs that present anti-MDR activity, these substances do not require the concomitant use of reversers to exert their anti-MDR activities.

  • Publication number: 20040076358
Abstract: The objective of the present invention is the detection/monitoring of microorganisms present in the air, water or foodstuffs through the use of a fiber optic biosensor with an evanescent-field. A first concretization of the present invention concerns a method for detection of contamination by specific microorganisms through the use of the evanescent-field of a sensitive fiber optic characterized by stages of: a) exposing the evanescent-field of the sensitive fiber optic using an appropriate technique based on physical and chemical properties; (b) permitting immediate contact of the exposed evanescent-field obtained in the stage (a) with the sample to be examined, with the aforementioned sample having a form adequate so as to obtain the generation of an optical signal in response to the presence of microorganisms in the sample; and, (c) demodulating the optical signal generated in stage (b) and using this value to quantify the microorganisms through an appropriate method.
