Abstract: Proximity triggered water fountains may have proximity sensors configured to detect target(s), a processing unit communicably coupled to proximity sensors configured to transfer data related to the target(s) to the processing unit, nozzles and nozzle controllers, and collectors configured to receive water projected from the nozzles. The nozzle controllers may be controlled based on data received from the sensors. The nozzle controllers may be coupled to the nozzles of a water circulation system configured to adjust a water projection angle from the nozzles with respect to the ground. The water circulation system may use tank(s), pump(s), and supply and return line(s), with the nozzles, tank(s), pump(s), and supply and return line(s), being in fluid communication. The nozzles and collectors may be displaced a horizontal distance from each other such that outlets of the nozzles are not vertically above the collectors.

Abstract: Method and apparatus include a circuit having a duty cycle and interleaving modulation configured to realize high density and efficient energy transfer. The circuit may efficiently achieve higher step-down voltage ratios with fewer electrical components. For example, as few as seven electrical devices, such as switches and diodes, may be used to realize at least a four-to-one conversion ratio. The high density of the circuit is advantageous to meet shrinking space demands. A modulator may interleave signals sent to the electrical components (e.g., switching devices via driver circuitry). The driver signals may include a duty cycle of 1/(nc+1), where nc is (n?1)/3, and n is the number of devices.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a device and a method for swinging power generation and vibration suppression by using arc-shaped wing plates with rough surfaces. The device consists of two parts, namely, a rotary swinging system and a collector system. The rotary swinging system includes a collector riser, steering bearings, nanometer material arc-shaped power generation wing plates, and flexible tail plates. The collector system includes telescopic power generation cylinders, a waterproof electric slip ring, and a waterproof power transmission line. The suppression of energy-consumption-free vortex-induced vibration is realized under the combined action that the nanometer material arc-shaped power generation wing plates divide a flowing space and adjust a flow direction, the nanometer material arc-shaped power generation wing plates drive the flexible tail plates to swing to destroy a tail vortex street, and hemispherical bulges and trumpet-shaped deflector holes disturb a boundary layer around flow.

Abstract: Methods of treating cancer in a subject and compositions are provided. The methods include administering a therapeutically effective amount of a poly (ADP ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitor to the subject in need thereof and administering a therapeutically effective amount of a folic acid supplement to the subject. Abstract: A method for forming hollow silica spheres by dissolving a hydrolyzable aryl silane in an aqueous solution of water and an acid to form a hydrolyzed silane solution, mixing the hydrolyzed silane solution with a hydroxide base to form a precipitate, and calcining the precipitate in a multi-stage calcination procedure that includes (a) heating to a first temperature of 180 to 240° C. with a first ramp rate of 3 to 10° C./min and holding the first temperature for 2 minutes to 2 hours, then (b) heating to a second temperature of 600 to 740° C. at a second ramp rate of 0.1 to 4° C./min, and holding the second temperature for 2 to 24 hours.

Abstract: The formation of microporous surfaces through polymer induced phase separation in a photopolymer solvent mixture using photopolymerization via light self-focusing and self-trapping. The self-trapping of light sets fixed regions of brightness and darkness, sustained by the polymerization of light, and then wave guiding within the substrate. Phase separation occurs with the solvent phase separating in the regions of darkness and crosslinking in the regions of brightness. Upon removal of the solvent, precise and uniformly dispersed pores are created in the surface. The pore size and spacing may be tuned by adjusting the weight fraction of the photopolymer solvent mixture as well as through changes in the mask pattern.
