Abstract: Disclosed are new small molecules having a 4-methylpyrrrolo[1,2-a]pyrimidine-8-carboxamide core structure and the uses thereof for modulating glucocerebrosidase activity. Also disclosed are pharmaceutical compositions comprising the small molecules which may be administered in methods of treating diseases or disorders associated with glucocerebrosidase activity, including neurological diseases and disorders such as Gaucher's disease and Parkinson's disease. The small molecules may contain a fluorophore or may be conjugated to a fluorophore in order to prepare a fluorescent probe for use in high throughput screening methods to identify new modulators of glucocerebrosidase activity via fluorescence polarization.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention leverage mobile proliferation to enable laypersons to initiate a timely and effective emergency response in case of an emergency, such as a medical emergency, e.g., cardiac event. Mobile apps are made available as part of an organization's overall response plan and program, allowing bystanders of emergency events to easily initiate notification of trained responders, for example in their facility, in a timely manner commensurate with the type of emergency specific to their facility. More particularly, embodiments of the invention use mobile applications to alert certified first trainees to respond to the scene of the emergency.

Abstract: The present invention relates to miR145, miR132, miR212, and the genes or gene products regulated by these miRNAs. miR145 is downregulated in cells infected with HCMV. This downregulation modulates expression of miR145 target genes, including IRS-1. Transfection of cells with a miR145 agent, such as a miR145 mimetic, reduces HCMV replication and protein expression. miR132 and miR212 are upregulated in cells infected with HCMV. This upregulation modulates expression of miR132 and miR212 target genes, including MeCP2 and RICS. Transfection of cells with a miR132 and/or a miR212 antagonist reduces HCMV replication and protein expression. Accordingly, the invention provides methods of attenuating HCMV replication by modulating, for example, miR145, miR132, and/or miR212, and targets thereof. Also provided are methods of detecting an HCMV infection, and compositions and kits useful for attenuating HCMV replication.

Abstract: By adapting femtosecond micromachining approaches developed in hydrogels, we can perform Intra-tissue Refractive Index Shaping (IRIS) in biological tissues. We reduced femtosecond laser pulse energies below the optical breakdown thresholds to create grating patterns that are associated with a change in the refractive index of the tissue. To increase two-photon absorption, we used a two (or more)-photon-absorbing chromophore.

Abstract: The various embodiments herein provide a Uniform Circular Displaced Sensor Array (UC-DSA) system and method for measuring/estimating Direction of Arrival (DOA) of a wireless signal. The UC-DSA system comprises at least a set of two circular antenna arrays. The two circular antenna arrays have a number of elements. A Radio frequency (RF) receiver captures a wireless signal incident on a circular antenna array. A Direction of Arrival (DOA) estimator processes a received input signal and a Triangulation system provides the exact location of the source of the wireless signal. The two circular antenna arrays with the same number of elements are placed on different radii, and are shifted to have equal separation between inner elements and outer elements.

Abstract: The present invention provides methods of treating humans and animals with terpenes and terpenoids in order to restore the stratum granulosum and stratum corneum and treat a dermatological disease, such as, for instance atopic dermatitis. More specifically it provides terpenes and terpenoids such as monoterpenoids, sesquiterpenes and norisoprenoids as ingredients that work to restore and thicken the stratum granulosum and stratum corneum and treat a dermatological disease. Terpenes and terpenoid compounds support the cell proliferation, cell differentiation, growth of skin, skin tissue and keratinocytes by upregulating genes for loricrin filaggrin, caspase 14, hornerin and other late cornified envelope components and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and downregulation of matrix metalloproteinases. Both terpenes and terpenoids may be applied topically or orally at oral or topical concentrations from about 0.
