Abstract: Provided herein are methods to generate and screen peptides that exhibit drug like stabilities in vitro and in vivo. By selecting for enzyme resistance, Applicants are able to derive peptides that are not only stable to a broad spectrum of proteases, but also stable to other drug processing enzymes such as cytochrome P450s. This approach provides a general method to the rapid development of highly stable peptides for therapeutic development and diagnosis. The peptides are further modified for oral bioavailability.

Abstract: An electric power system or power grid is optimized using a computer-implemented tool the represents in computer memory the optimization function and at least one constraint, which the processor operates upon using a linear programming solver algorithm. The constraints are represented in memory as data structures that include both real and reactive power terms, corresponding to at least one of a power flow model and a transmission line model. The transmission line model is represented using a piecewise linear representation. The power flow model may also include for each node in the power system a real power loss term representing transmission line loss allocated to that node.

  • Publication number: 20150048264
Abstract: A fluid analysis method is provided. A gradient distribution of a first scalar property of a calibration fluid in a space is obtained. A calibration schlieren image of the calibration fluid is acquired and processed to obtain an intensity distribution of the calibration schlieren image. The gradient distribution of the first scalar property of the calibration fluid in the space is mapped to the intensity distribution of the calibration schlieren image, so as to obtain a corresponding relation between the gradients of the first scalar property and the intensities. A test schlieren image of a test fluid is acquired and processed to obtain intensity distribution of the test schlieren image. The intensity distribution of the test schlieren image is converted to the gradient distribution of the first scalar property of the test fluid according to the corresponding relation. Moreover, a fluid analysis system is also provided.

Abstract: Disclosed are screening methods for determining a human subject's propensity to develop a vascular disorder and/or age-related macular degeneration (AMD), therapeutic or prophylactic compounds for treating disease or inhibiting its development, and methods of treating patients to alleviate symptoms of the disease, prevent or delay its onset, or inhibit its progression. The inventions are based on the discovery that persons with a genome having a deletion of the CFHR-1 and/or CFHR-3 gene, which normally lie on human chromosome 1 between DNA encoding CFH and CFHR-4, are at reduced risk of developing AMD, and elevated risk of developing vascular disease such as aneurysm.
