Abstract: The present invention relates to a recombinant adenovirus expressing an ?A-crystallin gene, and gene therapy for retinal vascular disease using the recombinant adenovirus. Gene therapy using the recombinant adenovirus comprising an ?A-crystallin gene of the present invention increases the expression level of the ?A-crystallin gene in the damaged retinal pericytes to suppress pericyte loss and death, retinal vascular leakage, and leukocyte adhesion surrounding retinal vessels, thereby protecting the pericytes. Therefore, it can be used for the prevention and treatment of various retinal vascular diseases including diabetic retinopathy.

Abstract: Systems and methods for the design and fabrication of flexible devices, including high-performance large-area OLEDs, narrow border display panels and lighting panels are provided. Various described fabrication- and design-processes may be used to provide the necessary electrical drive to lighting and display panels. Electrical drive may be provided to one or more row- and column-signals by patterning conductive elements near the panel edge. The electrical elements may further be folded over a region near the panel edge back on itself, such that electrical traces may route around the display edge. This may allow the display active area to be substantially the same area as its viewing area, and furthermore may allow pixels go substantially all the way to the edge of the viewing area.
Abstract: This disclosure provides prostate cancer cell lines established from spontaneously immortalized, extremely tumorigenic and clonogenic primary prostate tumor. These cell lines represent unique cancer cell and cancer stem cell (CSC) models for preclinical prostate cancer studies and CSC-targeted drug development, which is of high value for pharmaceutic companies producing anti-cancer agents, as well as for the broad range of basic and translational research focused on cancer cell and CSC biology, stem cell behavior, cancer development and metastasis.

Abstract: A method of making a LED includes steps of providing a substrate having an epitaxial growth surface. A buffer layer and an intrinsic semiconductor layer are grown thereon in that order. A carbon nanotube layer is placed on the intrinsic semiconductor layer. A first semiconductor layer, an active layer, and a second semiconductor layer are grown in that order on the intrinsic semiconductor layer, the first semiconductor layer covering the carbon nanotube layer. A first electrode is applied to a surface of the second semiconductor layer and the substrate, the buffer layer, and the intrinsic semiconductor layer are removed to expose the carbon nanotube layer. A second electrode is applied to make electrical connections with the carbon nanotube layer.

Abstract: Techniques for enhanced isotachophoresis assays using additives with spatial gradients include forming a concentration gradient of an additive along a channel from an input port to an output port. The channel is used for isotachophoresis with ions of a leading electrolyte having a first mobility greater than a mobility of an analyte, and ions of a trailing electrolyte having a second mobility less than the mobility of the analyte. The additive is different from both the leading electrolyte and the trailing electrolyte; and the additive has a third mobility that assures the analyte will encounter the additive. The method further comprises introducing a mixture of the trailing electrolyte and a sample including the analyte. The method further comprises applying an electric field to the channel; and, measuring the analyte.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a compound refractive lens for focusing X-rays in two dimensions. The method includes the following steps: 1) manufacturing a mother lens; 2) manufacturing a daughter lens; and 3) assembling the mother lens and the daughter lens. The assembly of the mother lens and the daughter lens includes: aligning square embedded lens bodies of the daughter lens with square holes of the mother lens, respectively, for allowing the first parabola-shaped holes on the mother lens and the second parabola-shaped holes on the daughter lens to form an orthogonal structure; and inserting and pressing the square embedded lens bodies into the corresponding square holes, respectively. The method of the invention has advantages of high-precision for manufacturing and calibration of optical axis, and meanwhile the compound refractive lens manufactured based the method has high X-rays focusing efficiency.
