Abstract: A continuous or a long-pulsed microwave oscillated from a microwave oscillator 1 is propagated in a waveguided tube 2 in which a given gas is charged. Subsequently, by irradiating a laser having a given intensity from a laser source 4 to the points, A and B in the tube 2, the given gas is partially made plasma. Just then, the microwave can not travel beyond the plasma-part of the given gas and reflects thereat. Accordingly, the microwave is divided at the plasma-part and thereby, a short-pulsed microwave can be obtained.

Abstract: The phase of nuclear magnetization in a target placed in a homogeneous magnetic field and excited by a high-frequency magnetic field is encoded by applying a specifying magnetic field with a non-linear gradient thereto, and the specifying magnetic field is scanned across the target, and the encoded NMR signals are received and processed so as to produce an image of the distribution of nuclear magnetic substance in the target.
Abstract: The disclosed method of scanning a specifying magnetic field for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) imaging comprises steps of generating the specifying magnetic field by synthesis of a static magnetic field and a magnetic field produced by a group of magnetomotive forces, and moving the center of the specifying magnetic field by superposing a scanning magnetic field from a scanner coil in a certain direction of the magnetic field of the group of magnetomotive forces.
Abstract: A compound of the general formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.0 represents an alkyl group optionally having a substituent selected from the class consisting of a cyano group, lower alkoxy groups and di-(lower alkyl)amino groups, a lower alkenyl group, or a lower alkynyl group; R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3, independently from each other, represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a lower alkyl group, or a lower alkoxy group; R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.7 and R.sub.8, independently from each other, represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a lower alkyl group, or a lower alkoxy group; Y represents a group of the formula ##STR2## or a group of the formula ##STR3## in which one of R.sub.9 and R.sub.10 is a lower alkyl group and the other is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group; with the proviso that when Y is the group ##STR4## and R.sub.0 represents an unsubstituted alkyl group, R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.7 and R.sub.8 do not represent hydrogen atoms at the same time.
