    Abstract: A method is disclosed of preparing alcohols having 2 to 4 carbon atoms by catalytic hydration of the corresponding olefins on acid catalysts at elevated temperature and elevated pressure, characterized in that byproducts of the hydration, namely corresponding ethers and/or low-polymerized hydrocarbons and/or undesired alcohols, which form upon the passage of the input product through catalyst bed, are fed to the input product before entry into the reactor, said method being characterized in that:A. When ethylene is the olefin, the reaction is conducted at a temperature of 200.degree.-300.degree. C.; andB: When propylene is the olefin the reaction is conducted at a temperature of 150.degree. to 220.degree. C.

    Abstract: An improvement in a process for the preparation of a solvent-free exclusively aqueous dispersion of a thermally linkable, storage stable, light stable polyurethane obtained by the reaction of a hydroxy group containing polyester composition and a diisocyanate in a ketonic solvent at 10.degree.-50.degree. C. employing the hydroxyl containing polyester and diisocyanate in amounts such that there are 1.5-2.0 NCO equivalents per OH group and the reaction product is thereafter reacted with a primary diamine, secondary diamine or diol in such an amount that 30-70% of the existing free NCO groups on said reaction product are reacted and the resultant reaction product is dispersed in water and said ketonic solvent is removed. The invention resides in that one uses as diisocyanate the uretdione of the 3-isocyanatomethyl-3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexyl-isocyanate.

Adding--if no or not enough sulfuric acid has been used for precipitating calcium sulfate--ammonium sulfate in amounts corresponding to condition A.sub.

There is disclosed a process in which vaporized phosphoric acid is admixed with a gas mixture before the same is added to the reactor, the phosphoric acid being in an amount corresponding to the amount of phosphoric acid discharged during the hydration. In such amount the process can be carried out without further phosphoric acid addition.

C., thereby forming a solution containing the gases and dissolved Ni(CO).sub.4, and thereafter heating said solution at a temperature of from 70 to 250.degree. C. for at least 0.25 hour at a pressure higher than the vapor pressure of said solvent, thereby precipitating and thereafter recovering nickel compound and releasing a purified solvent.

    Abstract: Olefins having two and three carbon atoms are hydrated in the presence of phosphoric acid-containing supported catalysts to the corresponding alcohols. For the hydration of olefins having two carbon atoms, the molar ratio of water to olefin is in the range of about 0.1-0.3 : 1, the reaction temperatures in the range of about 190.degree.-230.degree.C, and the reaction pressure is in the range of about 60-80 atmospheres gauge. For the hydration of olefins having three carbon atoms, the molar ratio of water to olefin is in the range of about 0.1-0.3 : 1, the reaction temperatures in the range of about 140.degree.-170.degree.C and the reaction pressure is in the range of about 20-45 atmospheres gauge. The only by-products which form in addition to the raw alcohol under these conditions are steam-volatile (water soluble) by-products which are separated from the raw alcohol in a washing extraction zone.
