  • Patent number: 4553907
Abstract: A pressure gas generating system including the compressor which is switched to a no-load condition when a predetermined pressure level is reached. The system employs either a regulator or a governor to allow the free exchange of gas between the suction chamber and the compression chamber to prevent the development of high temperatures. In the pressure regulator control system, the opening of the discharge valve is enlarged and is vented into the atmosphere by the pressure regulator so that the compressor continues to operate with reduced drive power and generates less heat during the no-load condition. In the pressure control system, the pressure discharge valve as well as the suction valve are opened during the no-load condition.

  • Patent number: 4546845
Abstract: An electropneumatic door control for vehicles is disclosed which consists of a pneumatic portion and an electronic portion. The electronic portion processes successive commands actuated by the vehicle operator to channel the signals to the pneumatic portion of the apparatus to activate alternate door openings and closings. Any blockage of the door movement is detected and signals processed to reverse the door closing or to halt the opening until the fault is corrected. The electronic portion also assures that the vehicle doors can only be opened after the vehicle has come to a stop, that when the vehicle doors are open the station or parking brake is held engaged, and that an audible warning signal sounds for a predetermined interval before the closing of the door.

  • Patent number: 4546860
Abstract: In a brake actuator device, wear of brake lining, which results in the increase of stroke of the brake actuator device consisting of piston and cylinder, is compensated by an adjuster which functions automatically when the brake is operated. The adjusting process takes place continuously and preferably at the onset of the actuation of the brake. A slip clutch turns the adjuster member which is connected by screw threads to the brake actuator piston to take up slack in the piston stroke. The slip clutch is driven by a rotary member that is in turn operated in response to actuation of the brake actuator.

  • Patent number: 4543856
Abstract: A remotely controlled automotive transmission shifting mechanism for effecting engagement of the respective gears with a force that varies in accordance with the gear selected. Pneumatic pressure from a compressed air storage tank is connected via a choke to a pneumatic actuating cylinder that effects gear engagement. A signal corresponding to the instantaneous pressure effective at the actuating cylinder is compared in an evaluating circuit with a reference value assigned to the gear selected. When the compared signals match, a solenoid valve is actuated to cut off further pressurization of the actuating cylinder and thereby modulate the gear actuating force in accordance with the gear selected. Following gear engagement, the gear actuating pressure is released.

  • Patent number: 4522568
Abstract: A valve plate, inserted between the cylinder body and head parts of a compressor, holds the usual compression valve, which opens to connect the compression and pressure chambers during the compression stroke of the piston, and the suction valve which opens to connect the suction and compression chambers during the piston intake stroke. A separate plate-type idle valve also within the plate is positioned to open into a recess of the compression chamber so that there is no interference with the movement of the piston. The idle valve is controlled by an idle piston actuated by pressurized air admitted through a pressure regulator which opens when the reservoir pressure exceeds a predetermined level. Opening the idle valve shifts the compressor operation from compression to idle condition by permitting unhindered passage of air between suction and compression chambers.

  • Patent number: 4507736
Abstract: A gear shift control system for a motor vehicle in which a micro-computer is fed signals representative of the output speed of the transmission and the selected gear position. This information allows the computer to recognize when the engine speed is within an optimum range. A latching mechanism associated with the gear shift lever is controlled by the computer to lock the gear shift lever. Such an arrangement avoids accidental improper shifting on the part of the operator to prevent engine damage due to over or under speeding of the engine, particularly in arrangements where the respective gear positions of the gear shift lever are arranged in line, as opposed to the conventional H configuration. The computer may be stored with several programs that can be selectively activated to vary the locking point of the gear shift lever within the optimum speed range, depending on the intent to operate the vehicle in a "speedy" or "economical" mode, for example.

  • Patent number: 4494571
Abstract: An electropneumatic door valve for use with pneumatic door operations as are used on mass transit vehicles. The single valve housing arrangement provides either a through passageway or a throttled passageway for pressurizing the opening or closing chamber of a pneumatic door drive unit. Provisions are also made to allow automatic reversal should the door become wedged, and to allow manual override should that operation be desired. Electrical pulses initiated by the vehicle operator trigger one of two solenoid valves which direct one of two operating pistons into a position to dictate which passageway will be established. Three vent passageways are provided to exhaust compressed air from any of the chambers which had been charged during a previous door operation.

  • Patent number: 4493244
Abstract: Pressurization of closing and opening chambers of a door operator is controlled by first and second magnet valves coupled to the source of air. These valves are alternately energized by a switching network, e.g., a flip-flop, when sequentially actuated to close and open the door. The second magnet valve is biased to its vent position but the first valve is operated to its vent position by air through a double check valve when the second magnet valve is energized. Emergency and choke valves are inserted in series in the air supply to the magnet valves and normally pass air without restriction. Operation of the emergency valve, e.g., door blocked, shuts off air from the magnet valves and diverts that air to inhibit all output from the switching network and, through the check valve in opposite position, to operate the first magnet valve to vent position. Door operation is halted in position.
