  • Publication number: 20140148913
Abstract: A joint prosthesis comprises a distal component for anchoring to a first bone, a proximal component for anchoring to a second bone, and a coupling piece that, together with the first component, forms a flexion bearing around a first axis and, together with the second component, forms a rotary bearing formed by the pin and the bearing bush around a second axis oriented transversely to the first axis. The rotary bearing comprises a multi-layer bearing insert, having a sliding sleeve surrounding the pin and a support sleeve that encloses said sliding sleeve and is fastened to the coupling piece by means of a securing element, wherein the securing element comprises an actuation unit within the support sleeve and can be connected to the coupling piece such as to ensure tensile strength by means of two aligned bores in the support sleeve and the coupling piece.

  • Patent number: 8641772
Abstract: A hip-joint prosthesis includes a shaft which is configured to be inserted into the femur and whose surface has an osteoinductive finish. This finish is provided exclusively in the metaphyseal portion of the shaft and laterally from the line delineating the maximum antero-posterior dimension of the shaft cross section. This ensures a better involvement of the metaphyseal spongiosa in the flow of forces, without compromising the ability to perform follow-up surgery on the prosthesis.

  • Patent number: 7914585
Abstract: A hip prosthesis includes a straight shaft which is to be inserted into the femur, the straight shaft including a proximal part that is configured to be inserted in the metaphyseal region of the femur. The proximal part has, on each of its front and rear faces, at least one projecting fin with a steep medial flank that deviates at least over part of its length away from the longitudinal direction of the shaft. At its top the proximal part is inclined toward the femoral neck. In this way, when the shaft is driven into the bone, the bone substance surrounding the fin is compacted and is able to absorb greater forces. The height of the fin decreases from its medial flank toward its lateral edge.

  • Patent number: 7802611
Abstract: A process for producing a medical implant from a titanium alloy, by investment-casting a ?-titanium alloy in a casting mold which corresponds to the implant that is to be produced, hot isostatic pressing, solution annealing, and then quenching. The corresponding medical implant is produced from the titanium alloy using the investment casting process, thus allowing economical production of objects from ?-titanium alloys. The ?-titanium alloy and has a mean grain size of at least 0.3 mm. It is possible to combine the advantageous properties of ?-titanium alloys, in particular their excellent mechanical properties, with the advantages of producing objects by the precision casting process, thus enabling even implants of complex shapes, such as femur parts of hip joint prostheses, which have heretofore been impossible (economically) to produce by conventional forging processes, to be produced from a ?-titanium alloy.

  • Publication number: 20090281550
Abstract: An insertion instrument comprising an elongate shaft, a suction head provided at the front end thereof for connection to a joint socket, a suction device with a piston guided in the shaft, a suction line opening out at the suction head, and an actuating element which is guided along a guiding track on the shaft. The guiding track can be helically shaped and have a locking arrangement, preferably in the form of a recess, for the actuating element in a suction position. Due to the helical shape of the guiding track, the actuating element executes a rotational and longitudinal movement during its displacement. The longitudinal movement produces a negative pressure in the suction line ensuring maintenance of the pressure, while the rotating movement causes rotation of the actuating element such that it reaches its locking position at the end of the guiding track, providing simplified handling of the instrument.

  • Publication number: 20090082866
Abstract: An endoprosthesis component and a method for producing an endoprosthesis component is disclosed. The endoprosthesis component comprises a body predefining the shape of the endoprosthesis component. On surface portions with which the endoprosthesis component in the implanted state is in contact with human tissue, the body is covered with an outer layer which comprises a nitride, an oxynitride or an oxide based on a refractory metal and which contains silver and/or copper. An intermediate layer is arranged between the outer layer and the body in such a way that parts of the intermediate layer are accessible from the outside. The endoprosthesis component enables generation of a long-term antimicrobial action with the outer layer and, in addition, action on the surrounding tissue from the intermediate layer.
