  • Patent number: 4489864
Abstract: A tubular container is provided with a top end punch-out closure comprising a one-piece plastic cap and a rotor on the cap. A punch-out tab defined by a tearing web on the cap can be forced by finger pressure to hinge down from the cap to form a dispensing opening that is aligned with the major dispensing opening on the rotor at the fully open dispensing condition of the rotor. The side of the tab opening opposite the hinge has an arcuate edge that is substantially congruent with a corresponding arcuate edge of the major dispensing opening when the closure is fully open, with the radius of the latter being slightly smaller than the radius of the former to maintain an interference fit if the tab breaks off. The substantially congruent arcuate shapes allow exertion of downward compressive finger pressure at a location sufficiently close to the tearing web to indirectly apply tensile pressure with sufficient concentration to rupture the web.

  • Patent number: 4308979
Abstract: The rotatable cap of an end closure and the associated end closure base are provided with detent elements defining one rotative position out of the entire 360 degrees and allowing rotation up to such position from all other rotative positions throughout the entire 360 degrees. The detent may be in the form of a plug which is received in and closes the discharge opening of the closure to act as an anti-sifting element. Automatic orientation can be accomplished by simply engaging the cap with a friction member carried at the end of a power-driven spindle provided with a slip clutch while turning the spindle through at least one full turn.

  • Patent number: 4274563
Abstract: A reclosable end cap or closure is provided of the type in which a rotatable disc or cover member is pivotally connected permanently at the center region of the end cap and can be selectively rotated in sliding face-to-face contact to close or unclose openings formed in radially intermediate portions of the end cap. The openings are originally formed as closed, removable, airtight tabs and the rotatable disc is pivoted on a boss upstanding from the center of the end cap to thereby provide a hermetic seal until the closure is first opened, and to provide for reclosability thereafter.

  • Patent number: 4253587
Abstract: A closure for the usual circular array of holes provided in the top wall of a can of cleaner or the like for dispensing the contents of the can. The closure includes a disc overlying the circular array of holes but covering only a minority of the area of the top wall. The disc is divided into a lid portion and a base portion. Protrusions on the underside of the base portion are relatively fixedly retained in their corresponding holes. Protrusions on the underside of the lid portion are relatively releasably retained in their corresponding holes.

  • Patent number: 4241856
Abstract: A closure assembly for a container with a reversible spout for dispensing or storage and having easily manipulated finger grips for assembly and disassembly and releasable locking tabs for resisting disassembly by children. The dispensing spout includes a special base configuration which allows the locking tabs to be effective in resisting disassembly in either position of the spout. Integral lip seal structure affords a positive sealing of relevant elements.

  • Patent number: 4183457
Abstract: An end closure cap for a tape sealed assembly with a cylindrical shell. The closure cap is characterized by a deep dish construction having a high degree of dimensional adaptability making it particularly suited for use with composite shells manufactured with relatively wide dimensional tolerances. The cap includes flared and beveled surfaces which make it self-aligning to the shell and elements which, until completion of the application of a sealing shrink tape, allow escape of air from the shell to facilitate high speed automatic closing of the assembly.

  • Patent number: 4106672
Abstract: A container includes a fiber tube and a plastic end closure. The end closure is of one piece plastic construction and includes a base having a central opening. A dish shaped dispensing wall covers the central opening and provides a plurality of small dispensing holes. A tab covers the central opening of the base and provides a sealing pin for closing each of the dispensing holes.

  • Patent number: 4082201
Abstract: A two-piece end closure for a container includes a stationary base and a recloseable cap. The base includes a through opening for dispensing the contents of the container and an annular trough extending substantially 360.degree. around the opening. The cap includes a cover portion extending over the opening, an elongated attachment leg frictionally received in the trough, and a flexible connecting wall extending between the cover portion and the lug.

  • Patent number: 4040595
Abstract: An injection molding machine includes a stationary mold half and a movable mold half. The stationary and movable mold halves cooperatively define a mold cavity for injection molding an end closure article having a base and a recloseable tab molded in an open position relative to the base. A thermoplastic material is injected into the mold cavity to form the end closure article. The movable mold half is then separated from the stationary mold half to open the mold cavity, and the tab of the end closure article is closed prior to ejecting the end closure article from the open mold cavity.

  • Patent number: 4029202
Abstract: A container comprising a fiber tube and a plastic end closure is shipped and displayed at the point of purchase in a display rack. A first end of the paper fiber tube is deformed radially inwardly to close the first end of the tube. The closed first end of the tube is provided with a longitudinally recessed center portion. The plastic end closure is disposed on the second end of the tube. The plastic end closure is structured and arranged so that it provides a smooth top surface having a recessed center portion. The display rack includes a plurality of cavities, and each cavity includes a resilient finger projecting into the cavity at each of its ends. The resilient fingers project into the recessed first end of the fiber tube and into the recessed center portion of the end closure on the second end of the tube to removably secure the container in the display rack.
