Abstract: The hydrolysis resistance of a urethane elastomer prepared by reacting a hydroxy compound with a prepolymer in a weight ratio of between 5/95 and 95/5 is improved; the hydroxy compound consists of at least one saturated polyester resin and/or at least one chain-extending agent, if necessary in the presence of the usual additives, each resin and each chain-extending agent having at least two OH end groups; the prepolymer is prepared by reacting at least one saturated polyester resin having at least two OH end groups and at least one organic isocyanate of functionality .gtoreq.2, in molar excess. To this end, to prepare at least one polyester resin, a fraction of the polyacid(s) used is replaced by at least one polymerized fatty acid, consisting substantially of a dimer and/or a trimer, the initial total content of polymerized fatty acid(s) being between 1 and 35% by weight, referred to the finished product.
Abstract: A safety grip handle for use with a hose of the type employed to direct a stream or spray of steam, hot water, chemicals, or the like, at an object or work area. The handle acts to position the hand, and the body, of an operator away from the nozzle of the hose and the hose itself.
Abstract: Emulsifiable compositions of cosmetic emulsion oils, oxidized petrolatum and water, and stable emulsified water-in-oil personal care preparations produced therefrom by neutralizing the acidic functionality of the oxidized petrolatum with a polyvalent cationic water-soluble metal salt.
Abstract: High performance modified high metal ratio overbased calcium complex greases which contain colloidally dispersed therein calcium carbonate in the form of crystalline calcite, and which greases include minor proportions, by weight, of (a) a calcium borate and (b) a calcium soap of a soap-forming aliphatic monocarboxylic acid containing at least 12 carbon atoms, exemplified by 12-hydroxystearic acid, said (a) and (b) ingredients being essentially homogeneously distributed through said calcium complex grease.
Abstract: Di- and other poly-sulfosuccinate esters of di- and other poly-hydroxyl aromatic propoxylated compounds in which, by way of illustration, both of the hydroxyl groups of a bisphenol, for instance, Bisphenol A, are etherified with a propylene oxide .alpha.-epoxide, the free hydroxyl groups of the resulting propoxylated bisphenol then being esterified with a sufficient amount of maleic anhydride whereby the resulting intermediate acid ester compound comprises di- and/or poly-maleic acid esters having free carboxyl groups which are then esterified with propylene oxide .alpha.-epoxide to produce a further intermediate having a free hydroxyl group at each of its terminal ends; and after which said last-mentioned intermediate is reacted to introduce at least two sulfosuccinated groups into the final compound, for instance, by reaction with aqueous bisulfite.
Abstract: A wellbore fluid having improved lubricating properties for drilling in formations in the earth comprising water and a lubricant composition containing a mixture of a chlorinated component and a sulfurized component in proportions to produce a lubricant composition containing 15 to 30 weight percent chlorine and 2 to 10 weight percent sulfur.
Abstract: A lubricant composition having special utility as a lubricant in constant velocity universal joints of the type used in front wheel drive vehicles. The composition comprises a low sulfur lubricating oil base grease and an additive package comprising a mixture of an oil soluble, sulfur-free organic compound and an oil insoluble sulfur-free inorganic compound.

Abstract: A method for the preparation of isethionic acid by treating an alkali metal isethionate with hydrochloric acid to form isethionic acid and a chloride salt. The chloride salt is removed so as to provide at least a 50% by weight aqueous solution of the isethionic acid after removal of excess hydrochloric acid, which solution may be further reacted with a polyvalent metal oxide, hydroxide or amine to form the corresponding heavy metal isethionate. Zinc isethionate, for instance, is useful as a catalyst for making acyl isethionates used in making soap bars.
Abstract: Lubricant compositions adapted for use in lubricating traction motor gears comprising a major proportion of a base oil such as a mineral oil, and a minor proportion of an oil soluble polymer such as a polyisobutylene.

Abstract: Energy-efficient processes for spray drying aqueous liquids in a spray dryer supplied with furnace-heated drying gas which processes comprise withdrawing the spent drying gas from the spray dryer, spraying the spent drying gas with water adiabatically to cool the gas and increase the water content thereof, and recycling a portion of the humidified gas to the furnace, the recycled portion being from about 40 percent to about 70 percent of the total humidified gas, together with apparatus for carrying out the processes.
Abstract: A process for providing water based anionic polyurethanes having improved thermal oxidation color stability. Water dispersed amine salts of anionic prepolymers prepared from the reaction of polyhydroxy compounds and dihydroxy carboxylic acids with diisocyanates are chain-extended with hydrazine or hydrazide and thereafter optionally with a diamine, when cured at temperatures in excess of 150.degree. C., form polyurethane products having substantially no discoloration and good mechanical properties. Alternately, the hydrazide may be employed as an additive rather than as a chain-extender. The process is particularly useful when employing cross-linking agents which react only at high temperatures.
Abstract: A process for making a mixed product of dimethyltin dichloride and methyltin trichloride by reacting dimethyltin dichloride with stannic chloride without catalyst. The mixed product is useful as an intermediate, without further purification, in the preparation of corresponding mercaptide stabilizer for vinyl chloride polymers.
Abstract: A process for preparing a 2-aralkyl-5,5-dialkyl-1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinan-2-one by heating a 2-aralkyloxy-5,5-dialkyl-1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinane such as the novel 2-benzyloxy-5,5-dimethyl-1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinane, with a catalytic quantity of an aralkyl halide.
