The advertising recipient's location that is considered in delivering a specific advertisement may be the current location or one or more historical locations. Proximity considerations with regard to other people, locations, or physical objects may influence the advertisement that is to be delivered. The advertisement may be delivered to a mobile device that has location-aware capabilities such as a Global Positioning System-based system.

Abstract: Adaptive applications of affinity propagation are described to facilitate effective and computationally efficient means of clustering computer-based objects such as items of content, and/or to determine exemplars associated with a set of objects. Affinity propagation is also applied by the present invention to define system user affinity groups and/or exemplar users. The present invention applies usage behaviors as a basis for influencing clustering through methods such as initializing exemplar attractor values based on usage behaviors and/or basing similarity values between pairs of objects or users on usage behaviors associated with system objects, or usage behaviors that are associated with, directly or indirectly, specific system users.

Abstract: A method and system for adapting computer-based personalities, as manifested by textual or audio communications, is disclosed. The communications comprise one or more phrases that may be selected non-deterministically. The frequency distribution of the plurality of potential phrases is updated based on the behaviors of the communications recipients. Thus, the frequency of the selection of phrases included in communications, and hence the “personality,” of the computer-based system, is influenced by prior usage behaviors. The computer-based personality may also exhibit “self-awareness” by monitoring changes in phrase frequency distributions over time, as well as being capable of expressing awareness of, and inferences from, changes in the behavior patterns of users over time.

Abstract: Methods of applying adaptive social computing systems are disclosed. The social computing systems include capabilities to generate adaptive recommendations and representations of social networks derived, at least in part, from inferences of the preferences and interests of system users based on a plurality of usage behaviors, spanning a plurality of usage behavior categories. The behavioral categories include system navigation behaviors, content referencing behaviors, collaborative behaviors, and the monitoring of physical location and changes in location. Privacy control functions and compensatory functions related to insincere usage behaviors can be applied. Adaptive recommendation delivery can take the form of visual-based or audio-based formats.

These adaptive social networking and tagging systems, and adaptive process network systems, apply algorithms for monitoring user usage behaviors across a plurality of usage behavior categories associated with a computer-based system, and generating recommendations based on inferences on user preferences and interests based, at least in part, on usage behaviors. Additional functions for effectively and efficiently managing social and process networks, such as social network measurement and analysis features, community tagging functions, and process network recombination functions are also described.

Abstract: An adaptive self-modifying system, a recombinant fuzzy network system, and an adaptive recombinant system are disclosed. The adaptive self-modifying system includes functions and algorithms for the self modification of structural elements, including relationships among system objects of the adaptive self-modifying system, based at least in part on usage behaviors associated with the system. The recombinant and adaptive recombinant systems feature functions for syndicating and combining fuzzy networks. The combining of the structural elements of the adaptive recombinant system may be based, at least in part, on usage behaviors associated with the system, and may be preferentially recombined based on evaluations of network “fitness.

Abstract: A method and system for generating adaptive explanations for associated recommendations is disclosed. The adaptive explanations comprise a syntactical structure and associated phrases that are selected in accordance with usage behaviors and/or inferences associated with usage behaviors. The phrases included in an adaptive explanation may be selected through application of a non-deterministic process. The adaptive explanations may be beneficially applied to recommendations that are associated with content, products, and people, including recommendations that comprise advertisements.
