Abstract: What is disclosed is a novel system and method for performing ray-based compression mapping in a color management system. The present method compresses a color point located at or near a boundary surface of a color gamut to a point beneath the gamut surface in order to eliminate artifacts which are likely to arise from a color marking device trying to reproduce colors which are on a boundary of the device's printable gamut. The present method is directly applicable to a variety of gamut mapping strategies employed in color management systems.
Abstract: A method receives a variable information print job and determines if any of the personalized content exceeds the size of a corresponding content area of the template. If the personalized content exceeds the size of a corresponding content area of the template, the method resolves such size inconsistencies (between the personalized content and the content area) by selectively removing and/or filtering portions of the personalized content according to the knowledge-based rules.

Abstract: There is provided an optical writing image forming device including: a positioning section positioning an optically written display medium including a pair of electrodes with at least one of which formed by a group of plural sub-electrodes, a display layer, and a photoconductor layer; a display layer initialization section applying an initialization voltage between the pair of electrodes and irradiating initialization light over the entire region of the photoconductor layer; an optical writing section; a head position identification section; and a writing information erasing section, based on information identified by the head position identification section, erasing in a time-series writing information in the display layer corresponding to the group of the plural sub-electrodes by selecting the sub-electrodes in sequence so that an image writing head does not obstruct light emitted from the initialization light source while the image writing head light source is being returned to a standby position.
Abstract: A fusion system fuses M rankings generated by M judges by (i) computing values of an aggregation function for items of the M rankings, the aggregation function including a sum of pairwise conjunctions of ranking values of different judges for an input item, and (ii) constructing an aggregation ranking based on the aggregation function values. In an illustrative application, the judges are different Internet search engines and the rankings are sets of search engine results generated for a query input to the search engines, and a consensus search result corresponding to the query is defined by the aggregation ranking. In another illustrative application, the judges are different soft classifiers, and the rankings are probability vectors generated for an input object by the different soft classifiers, and the input object is classified based on a consensus probability vector defined by the aggregation ranking.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are a method and a printing apparatus implementing the method to minimize cross-process direction non-uniformities of color images in printed documents. When printing images on a photoreceptor, halftone test patches are generated for each color. A first halftone cell orientation (of dots) of the test patches and their corresponding color image data is determined. The halftone cells of test patches may be provided or rotated to a second orientation (or angle or degrees) for printing in an inter-document zone of the photoreceptor, while the first orientation of the color image data in the document image area of the photoreceptor remains the same. Errors or non-uniformities (e.g., with TRC correction) caused by sensor misreading of test patches at specific orientations in the cross-process direction are substantially eliminated, thereby providing output images without streaks or visible errors.
Abstract: The present invention enables to establish sensing environment and application environment respectively by managing the corresponding relationship between the objects and the application programs in object management servers. The application program execution system includes movable objects, detection units that detect the objects, application programs, control units that control the execution of the context-aware application program, corresponding relationship between the objects and the application programs, and notification units that notify the control units of detection information that the detection units have detected, according to the corresponding relationship. Thus, the appropriate application programs are executed. The present invention enables to establish and change the application program execution system flexibly. Development of the application programs is also flexible.
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an ink stick provides the ink stick with a coded mark. The method includes forming an ink stick body of a phase change ink composition, and applying a marking composition to a surface of the ink stick body to form a coded mark on the surface of the ink stick body at the marking station, the marking composition being composed of the same phase change ink composition used to form the ink stick body.

Abstract: A system for measuring a pulse and respiratory rate from passive thermal video includes contour segmentation and tracking, clustering of informative pixels of interests, and robust dominant frequency component estimation. Contour segmentation is used to locate a blood vessel region to measure, after which all pixels in the nearby region are aligned across frames based on the segmentation's position, and scale in each frame. Spatial filtering is then performed to remove noise not related to heart beat and then non-linear filtering is performed on the temporal signal corresponding to each aligned pixel. The signal spectrum of each pixel is then feed to a clustering algorithm for outlier removal. Pixels in the largest cluster are then used to vote for the dominant frequency, and the median of the dominant frequency is output as the pulse rate.
Abstract: Described is a system for automatic digital photo orientation detection. We leverage online public photos with great content variation to extract effective features with layout information. Classification proceeds using an approximate nearest neighbors approach which scales well to massive training sets, hardly compromising efficiency. We have tested the method successfully on the largest data set to date of nearly 30,000 Flickr photos as well as both difficult and typical consumer usage scenarios. Though limited data are available for comparison across different systems, the proposed system significantly outperforms a state of the art system on a common data set.
Abstract: Provided are printing system scheduler methods and systems. Specifically, a shadow scheduler is disclosed which provides alternative modular printing system configurations to execute one or more print jobs, relative to a base modular printing system configuration. According to one exemplary method, a primary scheduler metric value and a shadow scheduler metric value are compared before executing the one or more print jobs.
