  • Publication number: 20180013851
Abstract: A system and method are described for establishing two-way push communication between an intermediate or companion device and a mobile device. Mobile devices register to listen for push notifications delivered through a push notification service from a specified set of providers. The presence of the mobile devices is delivered to the push notification service that maps the mobile devices to connections made between their respective companion devices and the push notification service. If the push notification service determines that a mobile device is “online,” in response to receiving a push notification for the mobile device, a current network connection over which a companion device is listening for push notifications is identified and the push notification is forwarded to the companion device. The companion device then can deliver the push notification to the mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20180014161
Abstract: In an example method, a computer system receives a query from a mobile device, including an indication of a location of the mobile device, and an environmental measurement obtained by the mobile device at the location. A set of candidate points of interest in geographical proximity to the location is determined. For each of one or more candidate points of interest of the set, a location fingerprint of the candidate point of interest and contextual data regarding the candidate point of interest are obtained. A similarity between the environmental measurement and each location fingerprint is determined. A particular candidate point of interest is selected from among the set based on the similarity, and based on an assessment of the contextual data. A label of the selected point of interest is associated with the location and transmitted to the mobile device.

  • Patent number: 9867044
Abstract: A system and method is described that enables autonomic discovery of wireless network security mechanisms by mobile devices. Stateful monitoring of wireless devices facilitates identification of pending network connectivity loss, enabling a handoff server to proactively advertise new points of access and their associated security mechanisms to devices before connectivity is lost. As a result, devices may seamlessly transition between secure networks. Stateful monitoring of device reachability may be used together with device certificates and/or tokens to decrease the potential of MAC spoofing and further secure the network. Stateful monitoring of device connectivity status during network transitions facilitates the identification of rogue access points. The token or certificate on the device may be used to authenticate the device while transitioning between networks by a centralized entity, managing the initiation and the execution of the handover for the device.

  • Patent number: 9864399
Abstract: In an embodiment, an integrated circuit such as an SOC (or even a discrete chip system) includes one or more local timebases in various locations. The timebases may be incremented based on a high frequency local clock that may be subject to variation during use due. Periodically, based on a lower frequency clock that is subject to less variation, the local timebases may be synchronized to the correct time, using hardware circuitry. In particular, the correct timebase value for the next synchronization may be transmitted to each local timebase, and the control circuit for the local timebase may be configured to saturate the local timebase at the correct value if the local timebase reaches the correct value before the synchronization occurs. Similarly, if the synchronization occurs and the local timebase has not reached the correct value, the control circuit may be configured to load the correct timebase value.

  • Patent number: 9866016
Abstract: Power converters are provided that convert alternating current (AC) power to direct current (DC) power. A power converter may have multiple ports. Each port may have an associated connector with multiple power and data terminals. When an electronic device is connected to a given port, the electronic device draws DC power from the power converter. To ensure that the capacity of the power converter is not exceeded when multiple devices are connected to the ports of the power converter, the power converter may actively monitor its ports for active loads. Load detection circuitry can determine what number of ports are active. Control circuitry can compute a per-port available DC power level based on the number of active ports and can provide this information to connected devices.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for performing acquisition, synchronization and cell selection within an MIMO-OFDM communication system. A coarse synchronization is performed to determine a searching window. A fine synchronization is then performed by measuring correlations between subsets of signal samples, whose first signal sample lies within the searching window, and known values. The correlations are performed in the frequency domain of the received signal. In a multiple-output OFDM system, each antenna of the OFDM transmitter has a unique known value. The known value is transmitted as pairs of consecutive pilot symbols, each pair of pilot symbols being transmitted at the same subset of sub-carrier frequencies within the OFDM frame.
