  • Publication number: 20180013498
Abstract: A quasi-optical coupling system launches and extracts surface wave communication transmissions from a wire. At millimeter-wave frequencies, where the wavelength is small compared to the macroscopic size of the equipment, the millimeter-wave transmissions can be transported from one place to another and diverted via lenses and reflectors, much like visible light. Transmitters and receivers can be positioned near telephone and power lines and reflectors placed on or near the cables can reflect transmissions onto or off of the cables. The lenses on the transmitters are focused, and the reflectors positioned such that the reflected transmissions are guided waves on the surface of the cables. The reflectors can be polarization sensitive, where one or more of a set of guided wave modes can be reflected off the wire based on the polarization of the guided wave modes and polarization and orientation of the reflector.

Abstract: A system for cloud acoustic enhancement is disclosed. In particular, the system may leverage metadata and cloud-computing network resources to mitigate the impact of noisy environments that may potentially interfere with user communications. In order to do so, the system may receive an audio stream including an audio signal associated with a user, and determine if the audio stream also includes an interference signal. The system may determine that the audio stream includes the interference signal if a portion of the audio stream correlates with metadata that identifies the interference signal. If the audio stream is determined to include the interference signal, the system may cancel the interference signal from the audio stream by utilizing the metadata and the cloud-computing network resources. Once the interference signal is cancelled, the system may transmit the audio stream including the audio signal associated with the user to an intended destination.

Abstract: A broadband powerline communication system makes use of knowledge of the spectrum characteristics of a local radio environment in order to improve system performance. A determination is made of the spectrum characteristics of a radio environment in the vicinity of the broadband powerline communication system that is transmitting data on modulated carrier frequencies. In order to avoid interference, certain ones of the carrier frequencies otherwise used by the broadband powerline communication system may be selectively masked based on the determination. The spectrum characteristics may be determined 1) in advance and used to compile a configuration database comprising frequency masking parameters; 2) by monitoring the local radio environment using the transmitter/receiver nodes of the system; or 3) based upon receipt of an indication from a conflicting user that the user is experiencing interference. Various combinations of these spectrum characteristic determination techniques may also be used.

According to one aspect, a device can compare a first unique body signature associated with a first user to a second unique body signature associated with a second user to determine a first unique effect of a first body of the first user on a signal and a second unique effect of a second body of the second user on the signal. The device can generate an authentication signal based upon the first unique effect and the second unique effect to include signal characteristics that, after propagating through the first body of the first user, are representative of the second unique body signature. The device can transmit the authentication signal through the first body of the first user to an authentication device that authenticates the first user on behalf of the second user.

Abstract: A method enables a portable communication device to redirect a call initiated from the portable communication device and to execute a visual interactive voice response application for interfacing with a user. The method includes screening calls initiated from the portable communication device by a communication application resident on the portable communication device, and redirecting a call initiated from the portable communication device when the screening determines that the call matches predetermined criteria. The method also includes authenticating an account corresponding to the portable communication device that initiated the call by communicating with a service provider communication network, and executing a visual interactive voice response application that visually interacts with the user of the portable communication device upon authentication of the account by the service provider communication network.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and products authenticate a user to a device. A user selects or submits a media file for authentication. Features in the media file are compared to a set of criteria for authentication. The number of matching criteria, that is within a range of values for each criterion in the set of criteria, is determined. The number of matching criteria is compared to a threshold value. When the number of matching criteria equals or exceeds the threshold value, then the user that selected or submitted the media file is authenticated.

Abstract: Speaker content generated in an audio conference is selectively and visually represented. A profile for each audience member who participates in the audio conference is obtained. Speaker content spoken during the audio conference is monitored. Different weights are applied to words included in the speaker content according to a parameter of the profile for each of the audience members. A relation between the speaker content to the profile for each of the audience members is determined. Visual representations of the speaker content are presented to selective members among the audience members based on the determined relation.

Abstract: Concepts and technologies are disclosed herein for message flow management for virtual networks. A processor can identify a target virtual network function instance that is to be taken offline. The processor can change a status associated with the target virtual network function instance to indicate it being taken offline. The processor can start a graceful shutdown timer to trigger shutdown of the target virtual network function instance. The processor can identify external interfaces and a peer network function that identifies the target virtual network function instance as a next hop. The processor can obtain, for the target virtual network function instance and the peer network function instance, a snapshot that identifies configuration data for the target virtual network function instance and the peer network function instance and can generate a command to trigger a shutdown of the target virtual network function instance.

Abstract: A system for adjusting content display orientation on a screen is disclosed. The system may include a processor that may detect both eyes and a body part of a user that is proximal to one or more of the user's eyes. The system may then determine an eye gaze plane based on the positions of the first and second eyes of the user. The eye gaze plane may be determined by identifying a first line of sight extending from the first eye and a second line of sight extending from the second eye. Additionally, the eye gaze plane may bisect a center of the first eye and a center of the second eye of the user. Once the eye gaze plane is determined, the system may adjust the orientation of content displayed on a display device based on the eye gaze plane and on the position of the body part.

Abstract: A system for providing a multi-delivery-method policy-controlled client proxy is disclosed. The system may receive a request for a network service from a client. Based on the request for the network service, the system may detect the presence of a client proxy associated with the client. If client proxy is detected, the system may provide a data object that includes information that indicates that the client proxy is a primary source for content that may be requested by the client. The system may redirect, based on the data object, a request for the content received from the client to the client proxy. The system may then obtain, via the client proxy, the content by utilizing a delivery method that is selected based on a policy. Finally, the system may provide, via the client proxy, the content to the client.
