  • Patent number: 10045748
Abstract: An x-ray detector for obtaining x-ray images of an object is provided that is capable of increasing the ability of the detector to withstand shock and other types of forces acting on the enclosure to prevent and/or limit damage to the internal components of the detector. The enclosure includes an internal filler/force distribution layer formed from a lightweight, rigid material such as rigid foam and/or a suitable structure, such as a honeycomb or other lattice structure. The material is formed or shaped to fill a layer or portion of the interior of the detector that is otherwise empty space defined between the various internal components of the detector. The position and shape of the force distribution layer determines the path of load distribution across or through the enclosure away from the internal components of the detector and is optimized for shock absorption and/or load distribution.

Abstract: A method of operating a waste water treatment plant (WWTP) having at least one of an aerobic digester (AD) and a membrane bioreactor (MBR) is described. The method of operating AD is comprised of monitoring and controlling AD in real-time using an online extended Kalman filter (EKF) having a online dynamic model of AD. The EKF uses real-time AD measured data, and online dynamic model of AD to update adapted model parameters and estimate model based inferred variables for AD, which are used for AD control by AD control system having supervisory and low-level control layers. The method of operating MBR is similar to that of AD. The supervisory control ensures the WWTP satisfying the effluent quality requirement while minimize the operation cost. A WWTP having at least one of AD or MBR is disclosed. The method of operating a WWTP can be implemented using a computer.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for hard switching of Alternate-Arm-Converter voltage source converters. Such voltage source converters have a phase limb with a high and low side converter arm connecting an AC terminal to a high and low side DC terminal, respectively, including a chain-link circuit in series with a director switch. Each chain-link circuit includes series connected cells that can be switched to generate a controlled voltage across the chain-link circuit. In embodiments, a controller turns-off the director switch of a converter arm that is conducting current in response to a hard-switching request for a first phase limb. In response to a hard-switching request, the controller controls the chain-link circuits of the first phase limb at any point in a phase cycle to control: a DC voltage across the director switch and/or the current flowing through the director switch to a predetermined level before turning the director switch off.
