Abstract: An approach for transmitting packets conforming with the TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) over a satellite communications network comprises a plurality of prioritized queues that are configured to store the packets. The packets conform with a predetermined protocol. A classification logic classifies the packets based upon the predetermined protocol. The packet is selectively stored in one of the plurality of queues, wherein the one queue is of a relatively high priority. The packet is scheduled for transmission over the satellite communications network according to the relative priority of the one queue.

Abstract: The present invention includes a wireless mobile communication device with a body casing having an exterior surface, and a number of light sources (LS) disposed on the exterior surface. A machine accessible medium is provided with instructions to selectively activate the number of LS in a spatial movement dependent manner to spatially paint luminescent images. Additionally, a processor is coupled to the machine accessible medium to execute the instructions. As a result, spatial painting of luminescent images utilizing a wireless mobile communication device is facilitated.
Abstract: Method and system are disclosed for improving the channel quality in a packet data radio network. In each cell of the radio network the packet data is measured based on channel utilization and/or packet queue measurements. A power control algorithm uses the packet data load to determine a common or equal broadcast or transmitted power level for the channels in the cell. The common broadcast or transmitted power may subsequently be adjusted on an individual channel basis for channels that fall outside a predefined quality window.
Abstract: Growth of interference wave power resulting from the growth of transmission power of the DPCH is prevented to increase line capacity while increasing reliability of control information. When a base station compares the reception SIR of the DPCH 1 from a mobile station with the desired SIR of the base station, and the reception SIR is smaller than the desired SIR as a result of the comparison, the base station instructs the mobile station to increase transmission power when the DPCH 1 is sent from the base station to the mobile station, but the base station increments the desired SIR by a predetermined offset value (?) when the HS-PDSCH is sent from the base station to the mobile station. Consequently, the mobile station increases transmission power compared to the case where only the DPCH 1 is received. Also, the HS-PDSCH is sent to each mobile station in different timing, and therefore only the mobile station increases transmission power.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method for managing state information related to an interactive application to accommodate one or more users participating in an interactive application session, wherein the state information comprises local state information specific to each of the one or more user's unique view of the interactive application and global state information. The system of the present invention may comprise a telecommunications network; an application server in communication with the telecommunications network for managing the global state information relative to all of the users participating in the interactive application session; and at least one mobile client device in communication with the application server over the telecommunications network for managing the local state information for each of the one or more users.

Abstract: A digital broadcast transmission/reception system includes a transmission posting apparatus for performing a communication call through a telephone line network before a broadcast transmission apparatus starts transmitting individual information. The system also includes a distributor having a register which stores a transmitter ID signal of the transmission posting apparatus. The distributor compares a transmitter ID signal at the communication call with the transmitter ID signal stored in the register, outputs a power control signal when these ID signals match, and connects the telephone line network with a telephone when these ID signals do not match. The system also includes a power control apparatus for tuning ON power to a broadcast reception apparatus according to the power control signal. Therefore, the power to the broadcast reception apparatus can be controlled through the telephone line network.

Abstract: A touch panel is provided on the back of a mobile terminal which has a display area and an operation entry part on its front. The mobile terminal is configured to allow a user to press the touch panel with a finger, which supports the mobile terminal on the back thereof, to enter information. Information entry is done by entering the locus of a character or a graphic or by selecting from items displayed on a screen in the display area. In addition, the mobile terminal is configured to allow the user, through the touch panel, to control the scroll of the screen.
Abstract: A wireless mobile phone is provided with the capability to visually convey various information to users, using a number of light emitting devcies (LEDs). The information may include notification of an incoming call, text messages of a call (in Morse code representations), complementary graphics for non-graphics contents, and visual representations of attributes of sound. In various embodiments, the implementations may include a visualization controller to selectively activate and deactivate the LEDs, and applicable ones of an event, text and sound visualization clients. In various embodiments, all or selected combinations of the elements may be part of the base unit of the wireless mobile phone, while the remaining elements, if any, may be part of an interchangeable face plate or a covering skin.
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for selectably permitting data to be scheduled and transmitted to effectuate a data service, such as a WAP-based service. Power control commands generated pursuant to separate communications by way of a dedicated air interface link are monitored. Responsive to values of the power control commands, data is either permitted to be transmitted or prevented form being transmitted, depending upon channel conditions upon which the data bursts are to be transmitted.
Abstract: A direction of arrival estimation section 106 estimates the direction of arrival of a signal, and a DSCH-using terminal determination section 108 determines a communication terminal that is to use a DSCH based on communication terminals from which a request signal is received and signal direction of arrival. That is to say, the DSCH-using terminal determination section 108 determines communication terminals that are to use the DSCH in the order of communication terminals whose signal directions of arrival are most contiguous from among communication terminals wishing to use the DSCH.

Abstract: A broadcast receiving device which clearly indicates supplementary information transmitted along with broadcast content, and which facilitates program search. The supplementary information may be a program sequence information of a digital broadcast. Plural types of topic information related to a broadcast content description and a genre of a broadcast content are designed in the supplementary information. A memory device stores, separately for each genre, a display priority degree for each of the plural types of topic information. A control processor obtains genre information and topic information items from an acquired supplementary information. The control processor indicates the topic information items on a display according to the display priority degrees stored in the memory device corresponding to the obtained genre information.

Abstract: In a multiple stage transmitter, and analog signal is modulated and mixed to produce a radio frequency output. A separate mixing frequency signal is provided to each stage. A single frequency synthesizer is used rather than a plurality of frequency synthesizers. In a two-stage system, first and second dividers each receive the output of the frequency synthesizer and deliver a mixing signal to the first and second stages respectively. The modulus of each divider may be selected to minimize spurious signals.

Abstract: A system and method is provided for establishing a call to a wireless directory number (982) which is either a non-geographic directory number or a non-dialable directory number. A call is initiated from a wireless telephone (155) to a geographic-based local access directory number (994, 996). An originating switching node (810) recognizes the local access directory number (994, 996) as an AIN trigger, and thereafter identifies a signaling node (820) that is associated with the dialed local access DN (994, 996). The signaling node (820) sends a location request that includes the local access DN (994, 996) to an HLR (130). The HLR (130) obtains the wireless DN (982) from an internal database (990) in which the wireless DN (982) is associated with the local access DN (994, 996). The HLR (130) utilizes the wireless DN (982) to receive a temporary local directory number (TLDN) from visitor location register (140).
Abstract: Described is a system and method for updating a contact and adding a new contact from a call log in a communications device. The system includes a contact manager that is directed towards creating and updating call contact cards in a contact database with information retrieved from call logs of phone calls made to or from the communications device. In one embodiment, information is pre-populated into a predetermined data field of the contact card, thereby reducing workload to a user. The method includes determining if a request is for updating an existing contact card or for adding a new contact card to the contact database. The update or addition is made with information retrieved from call logs. Call information is pre-populated into a predetermined data field of the contact card, when it is determined that the request is to add a new contact card to the contact database.
