  • Patent number: 4052908
Abstract: An improved drive clutch device for a V-belt type automatic transmission wherein a stationary sheave is fixed to a driving shaft while a movable sheave opposed to said stationary sheave is slidably mounted on the driving shaft. A swingable cam weight and a roller in engagement with the cam weight are correlatively supported by driving shaft and movable sheave respectively. The movable sheave is caused to slide toward the stationary sheave by centrifugal force caused by rotation of the cam weight, whereby the pulley diameter is varied. The movable sheave is cylindrical in shape and has at one end an opening which is covered by a cover cast integrally with a starter pulley.

  • Patent number: 4047443
Abstract: This variator is improved in order to improve reliability and prolong its life. For this purpose it comprises a friction elements clamping plate provided with two cylindrical skirts which axially extend from opposite sides of the plane of the clamping plate and enable the clamping plate to be supported by the housing by bearings which are axially spaced apart and located on opposite sides of the plane of the clamping plate. Moreover, a ring carrying ramps which adjust the clamping force exerted by the clamping plate in accordance with the torque transmitted is connected to the clamping plate by a relatively deformable connection so that the clamping plate is not subjected to a particularly harmful alternating tipping.

  • Patent number: 4041790
Abstract: A spring clip is capable of selective installation on and removal from a pair of adjacent pins in a roller chain. The spring clip has a body portion formed of sheet spring metal and an opening at each of its opposite ends. The intermediate section of the body portion is preformed into an arc to establish a predetermined linear distance between the openings. The openings may only be simultaneously received by and installed at recesses at the extended ends of each pin by deforming the arc of the intermediate section to alter the distance between the openings to a magnitude generally corresponding to a predetermined distance between the pins. When both openings are simultaneously installed at the recessed portions of their respective pins, the arc of the intermediate section tends to re-establish the predetermined linear distance to prevent inadvertent removal of the spring clip from the pins.

  • Patent number: 4038886
Abstract: A variable speed drive includes a planetary set of two adjustable V-belt pulleys orbitally driven around a nonrotatable, or fixed, adjustable sun pulley and a rotatable, adjustable output sun pulley attached to an output shaft. The orbiting planet pulleys are carried on a radial arm driven by the input shaft and have adjustable, inversely proportional effective diameters which are wrapped by V-belts connecting the planet pulleys to the sun pulleys. The effective diameter of the fixed sun pulley is adjusted by a control rod and the effective diameter of the output sun pulley is biased towards its maximum effective diameter. When all four pulleys are at the same effective diameter, orbiting of the planetary set will produce zero output. When the effective diameter of the fixed sun pulley is varied by the control rod, the V-belts will assume new effective diameters on all four pulleys causing the output speed to vary.

  • Patent number: 4038878
Abstract: A bicycle derailler which provides for an actuating mechanism which prevents stretching and breaking of the actuating cable by allowing an actuating link to move when the cable is tightened at times when the wheels of the bicycle are not moving. Under these conditions, when the actuating link is moved by the cable it spring biases the derailler mechanism such that when the bicycle starts to move the spring bias causes shifting of the derailler.

  • Patent number: 4037713
Abstract: A frame assembly for a scraper-chain conveyor which is usable as a drive or reversing station. The assembly has bearing units, which are supported by spaced-apart side walls. A shaft carrying a chain wheel for engagement with the scraper-chain assembly of the conveyor is mounted for rotation between the bearing units. The chain wheel is constructed from separate parts and can be readily attached to or detached from the shaft without removing the latter. The bearing units have hollow projecting parts which accommodate bearings for the shaft which are protected by seals. These projecting parts smoothly merge with the exterior of the chain wheel. The shaft has hollow end portions provided with splines which can be coupled to a journal introduced into the associated end portion from the exterior of the associated bearing unit which also provides access to the bearings and seals. This journal can then be coupled to a drive means to effect rotation of the shaft.

Abstract: A roller chain that includes a series of alternately arranged roller links and pin links is manufactured by welding side bars to separately formed bushings and pins. Each roller link has a pair of laterally spaced side bars extending in a direction longitudinally of the chain. A pair of bushings extend transversely of the chain between the side bars and a pair of rollers are rotatably mounted on the bushings.
