  • Patent number: 9839523
Abstract: A spacer for a knee replacement prosthesis. The spacer may have a lower surface with a locking component adapted to interlock with a tibial tray, an upper surface optionally with a tibial post and a pair of smooth-surfaced and slightly concave condyle support platforms disposed on opposite sides of the tibial post, and a substantially hollow body with an internal reservoir that can be filled with antibiotic material. The reservoir may be accessible from a port on the hollow body that leads into the internal reservoir, and which permits refilling of the reservoir. In some embodiments, the reservoir may be refillable from this port without removal of the spacer from the patient; for example, a percutaneous needle may be inserted into the port. The spacer may dispense antibiotic from this reservoir to the surrounding area in order to treat an infection.

  • Patent number: 9809906
Abstract: The present invention implements a set of grooves/ridges created on Ti at the circumferential direction to increase surface area of implant in contact with bone. These grooves/ridges protect nanofiber matrix (NFM) made with Polycaprolactone (PCL) electrospun nanofiber (ENF) and collagen at the groove from physiological loading. Controlled fabrication of a ridge made with titanium nitride (TiN) around the circumference of Ti is provided using a plasma nitride deposition technique. PCL ENF may be deposited along the sub-micrometer grooves using the electrospin setup disclosed. The method provides for fabrication of microgroove on Ti using machining or TiN deposition and filling the microgrooves with the NFM. This method has proven through experimentation to be successful in increasing in vivo mechanical stability and promoting osseointegration on Ti implants. The immobilization of MgO NP and FN with the PCL-CG NFM on microgrooved Ti as provided in the invention optimizes biological performances of Ti.

  • Patent number: 9801700
Abstract: A dental prosthesis has a gum sealing rim that snugly contacts the patient's gum. The cavity formed within the gum sealing rim is accessed by through holes via which a pressurized cleaning fluid may be injected into the cavity. The cleaning fluid swirls around and washes of bacteria and deposits. Through a number of cleaning fluid drains, the cleaning fluid exits again the cavity. An additional drain blocker may be configured such that it blocks the cleaning fluid drains while it is clamped by the patient between the teeth. The resulting pressure build up in the cavity causes the cleaning fluid to squeeze out and clean the sealing interface between the gum sealing rim and the patient's gum.
