  • Patent number: 9418553
Abstract: A driver uses a mobile phone application to transmit a request to a central processor for information on available parking spaces, accommodating a specific size car, close to her present location or a future location. An image processor processes real time images from linked cameras overlooking parking spaces, comparing them with reference images of unoccupied parking spaces, vehicles including automobiles, bicycles and motorcycles, a no parking sign sandwich board and a traffic cone. The image processor sends the information on available parking spaces to the central processor. The central processor saves image processor information and information on available parking spaces, parking fee and advertising promotions from parking facilities on a database and transmits a response to the driver's request. The mobile phone application displays and audio broadcasts the response. The driver pays a fee and reserves an available parking space to exclude it from responses to other requests.

  • Patent number: 9393868
Abstract: A method and system for improved driver reward display functionality. A driver reward is calculated based on inputs, such as freight fuel, fuel economy, and % idle. The driver reward system configures and displays a primary driver reward image for various menu selections. The primary driver reward image is configured to indicate whether the driver reward is at full penalty, partial penalty, neutral, partial bonus, or full bonus. The image is displayed in one color if above an expected value and another color if below the expected level. Images that indicate to the operator of the vehicle the impact of each input on the overall driver reward or whether each input is improving or worsening may be displayed. A secondary driver reward image may also be displayed to indicate a specific bonus or penalty in miles per hour and speed limit.

  • Patent number: 9373008
Abstract: This invention provides a system and apparatus that is able to authenticate and prevent illegal manufacturing and unauthorized operation of disposable bioprocess components. This invention utilizes a ferro-electric random access memory chip (FRAM) chip to store error-correctable information on a RFID tag attached to the disposable bioprocess components, where the error-correctable information is written in sequence into the memory chip, so that the redundant information can remain in the chip when the RFID tag and disposable bioprocess component is gamma-sterilized. Also, this invention includes a method for authenticating the disposable bioprocess component that reduces liability in that a counterfeit poor quality disposable component is not used on the hardware so the user will not file an unjustified complaint.

  • Patent number: 9348417
Abstract: The subject disclosure relates to user input into a computer system, and a technology by which one or more users interact with a computer system via a combination of input modalities. When the input data of two or more input modalities are related, they are combined to interpret an intended meaning of the input. For example, speech when combined with one input gesture has one intended meaning, e.g., convert the speech to verbatim text for consumption by a program, while the exact speech when combined with a different input gesture has a different meaning, e.g., convert the speech to a command that controls the operation of that same program.

  • Patent number: 9330563
Abstract: Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) tend to be specialized and expensive—relegated to only key points in power distribution networks, and are generally reliant on GPS technology. The present disclosure details how any smart meter—using wireless communication—can perform sub-microsecond-grade synchrophasor measurements. Other aspects concern smart meter-based determination of A, B or C phase of the tri-phase power network. This can involve count-stamp enabling message packets sent to and/or from a smart meter, and then associating such count-stamps to local measurements of power phase by a metrology unit. Once a network of such enabled smart meters and other devices is formed, sub-microsecond metropolitan-wide and entire region-wide synchronizing time standard can calibrate local measurements of power phase, where simple A, B and C phase determination is one low hanging fruit application of such.

  • Patent number: 9317795
Abstract: An RFID sensing system and method. An array of sensing elements is disposed on a surface of a mat, wherein each sensing element includes an RFID microchip, an antenna operatively coupled to the microchip, and a pressure-sensitive material disposed on at least the antenna. An RFID reader is provided for interrogating the array of sensing elements. An antenna operatively coupled to the reader communicates with each sensing element disposed on the mat. Each sensing element in the array, in response to an interrogation signal, transmits a signal to the reader via the coupled antenna when a subject placed on the mat compresses the section of pressure-sensitive material for the sensing element.

  • Patent number: 9317725
Abstract: A method of adding TTO functionality to an RTF RFID air protocol, such as ISO/IEC 18000-63 and EPC C1G2 protocol, Chinese GB/T 29768-2013. The starting wait state is changed after power-up of the RTF protocol to a TTO state where the tag automatically transmits an ID or an ID plus additional data at intervals to a reader while still waiting for possible RTF commands. A new command is added that enables the reader to obtain a handle from the tag directly from the TTO state to access the tag in an identical manner to the RTF access. The TTO functionality is as defined by the ISO/IEC 1800-64 protocol or IP-X protocol.

  • Patent number: 9305458
Abstract: When two or more devices are near each other, they are likely to hear the same ambient sounds. To detect such proximity, each device captures a short digital audio signal from its microphone and uploads it to a proximity-detecting service along with a timestamp that indicates when the clip was captured. The proximity-detecting service maintains a history of sound clips for its clients and analyzes recently received sound clips that have similar time stamps. The devices can then be grouped according to the similarities of their sound clips. Devices that are grouped together in this way are deemed to be near each other.
