  • Patent number: 5559228
Abstract: The present invention provides an efficient process of reacting a bis-indolyl acid of the Formula (II): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is a hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl and R, X, and Y are optional substitutions; to produce a bis-indolyloxallic acid of the Formula (III): ##STR2## Compounds of the Formula (III) are readily converted to the bis-indolylmaleimides.

  • Patent number: 5539107
Abstract: A process for the production of azophenothiazine derivatives having either of the following structures: ##STR1## where X and Y include alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, hydrogen, carboxy, or carboxy alkyl substituents. These compounds are precursors to pharmaceutically active compounds such as pipacetate. The process involves the reaction of a 2-chloropyridine with a 2-mercaptoaniline or a dimer of 2-(2-mercaptophenylamino)pyridine in an inert solvent, e.g., .gradient.-methylpyrolidone in the presence of an oxidizing agent, e.g., performic acid.
