  • Patent number: 10536702
Abstract: Systems and methods for utilizing on-device sensor information to improve video encoding quality are discussed herein. Specifically, the systems and methods may utilize on-device sensor information to efficiently determine whether to encode a particular frame within a set of frames as an intra frame. When captured on video, a particular arrangement of a group of pixels within a frame may comprise a visual representation of an object within the frame. When encoding video footage, motion information characterizing motion of an image capturing device over time may be used to predict the modification of an arrangement of a group of pixels between frames. These predictions may be used to efficiently determine whether to encode a particular frame as an intra frame.

  • Patent number: 10499046
Abstract: A camera system captures images from a set of cameras to generate binocular panoramic views of an environment. The cameras are oriented in the camera system to maximize the minimum number of cameras viewing a set of randomized test points. To calibrate the system, matching features between images are identified and used to estimate three-dimensional points external to the camera system. Calibration parameters are modified to improve the three-dimensional point estimates. When images are captured, a pipeline generates a depth map for each camera using reprojected views from adjacent cameras and an image pyramid that includes individual pixel depth refinement and filtering between levels of the pyramid. The images may be used to generate views of the environment from different perspectives (relative to the image capture location) by generating depth surfaces corresponding to the depth maps and blending the depth surfaces.

  • Patent number: 10477248
Abstract: Presented herein are techniques for filtering pixels during video coding and decoding operations. Similar operations are performed at a video encoder and a video decoder. For a target pixel in a block of a video frame represented by the encoded bit-stream, a value of the target pixel is compared with neighboring pixels to produce a plurality of comparison results. A particular offset value for the target pixel is derived based on the plurality of comparison results. The target pixel is filtered using the particular offset value. This process is performed for some or all of the pixels of blocks of a video frame.

  • Patent number: 10467454
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer programs are presented for object recognition performed by electronic devices. One method includes an operation for capturing three-dimensional (3D) images of a region over a surface using 3D cameras, the surface having a pattern and each 3D camera defining a respective camera coordinate system. For each camera, the 3D image is analyzed to identify a location of the pattern indicating an origin of a common coordinate system, and a coordinate transformation function is defined to convert data to the common coordinate system. Each 3D camera captures a 3D object image of an object on the surface that includes 3D object data. The 3D object data is transformed to the common coordinate system to obtain transformed 3D object data. The 3D object data is combined to obtain a composite 3D object data, and object recognition of the object is performed based on the composite 3D object data.
