  • Patent number: 8827985
Abstract: A non-bladder invasive urethral catheter system is provided as a system of apparatuses that provide a means relieving a user's urinary incontinence issues while reducing localized compression to the walls of their urethra. The non-bladder invasive urethral catheter system provides a more convenient and less intrusive means of enabling individuals suffering from urinary incontinence to live an ordinary life. The non-bladder invasive urethral catheter system provides the user with comfort and increased mobility and permits the user to maintain the indwelling catheter during urination. The apparatus blocks urine flow and leakage while installed within a user. The non-bladder invasive urethral catheter system utilizes several urethral catheters that are differentiated by the positioning of a urethral balloon element on the elongated body of the urethral catheter. Through the substitution of the differentiated urethral catheters, the user is able to reduce the trauma to a particular area of their urethra.

  • Patent number: 8641692
Abstract: A manually-actuated, constant reduced-pressure apparatus for use with a reduced-pressure system for treating tissue at a tissue site includes a flexible, collapsible member that is operable to move between a compressed position and an extended position. The collapsible member may be disposed between a carrier member and a slider member that move between a compressed position and an extended position. The carrier member and slider member are urged away from each other by a constant-force biasing member, e.g., a constant force coil spring. As the apparatus moves from the compressed position to the extended position, a constant reduced-pressure is generated and delivered to a reduced-pressure port. Systems, methods of manufacturing a manually-actuated, constant reduced-pressure apparatus, and methods of treating a tissue site are also provided.

  • Patent number: 8579847
Abstract: Devices and methods useful for non-invasively indicating the position or setting of a mechanical device, such as a sensor or control in an implanted medical device, are disclosed. In one exemplary embodiment, a valve housing adapted to receive fluid flow therethrough is provided. The flow of fluid through the valve housing can be controlled, for example, by a valve assembly that has a plurality of predetermined pressure settings. A radio frequency tag can be disposed in the valve assembly, and the masking element and the radio frequency tag can be configured to move relative to one another. The relative positions of the masking element and the radio frequency tag can alter the response of the radio frequency tag to a wireless signal (which can be emitted from an external reading device, for example) and thereby indicate the pressure setting of the valve assembly.
