    Abstract: In a manhole/access cover and frame assembly the cover is supported on the frame by pairs of downwardly facing, oppositely inclined support surfaces on the cover which are engageable respectively with corresponding upwardly facing, oppositely inclined support faces on the frame, and the cover has a substantially continuous downwardly facing ridged peripheral sealing surface which, when the cover is supported on the frame, overlies a substantially continuous upwardly facing ridged peripheral sealing surface on the frame. The engagement between the aforesaid support surfaces so locates the cover with respect to the frame that ridges on the sealing surfaces are interleaved but are held out of supporting contact with one another along substantially the whole of their length, so that the tortuous path between the ridges may be packed with grease to provide a gas and water tight seal.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a curved like paving stone element for setting of a curved paving, characterized in that the curved element is limited by an outer circular curve having a radius and an inner circular curve having the same radius with the center points of the circular curves disposed on a radial straight at a distance from each other corresponding to the largest width of the curved element. The curved element consists of two outer stones and a center stone of about the same curvature length, where the outer stones are separated into three individual stones by means of non-continuous separating joints and the center stone is separated into either two or three individual stones. The curved element is asymmetrically offset with respect to the radial straight in such a manner that the outer edge of an outer stone is smaller than the opposite outer edge of the other outer stone and the size of this difference corresponds to about the width of the stone with the smaller outer edge.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a precast concrete traffic barrier element and a method of construction for a traffic barrier using the element on a vertical face of a retaining wall. The barrier element is a profiled block of precast concrete having a bottom surface with a longitudinally extending channel therein. The traffic barrier element is supported on the retaining wall with a top surface of the vertical face being received within the channel. Anchoring bars projecting from an interior portion of the traffic barrier element are embedded in a cast in situ counterweight positioned adjacent to the barrier. In a preferred embodiment, a plurality of traffic barrier elements are anchored in a single counterweight.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a travelling finisher apparatus for laying down a road surfacing layer of a bituminous compound material, comprising a first precompacting and levelling screed carried by a frame, and optionally a second levelling screed connected to a vibratory drive arrangement, whereby a particularly high degree of compaction is achieved so that subsequent roller compaction is not required. This is accomplished by providing a vertically guided compactor bar extending transversely of the direction of travel at the rear of the first screed and being of substantially narrower width than said first levelling plank, said compactor bar being continually in contact with the surface of the precompacted surfacing layer and adapted to be acted on by linear pulsating forces acting between the frame and the compactor bar, and generated by a drive source the reaction forces of which are absorbed by the frame.

    Abstract: A dowel insertion apparatus and process is disclosed for the insertion of a plurality of joining dowels in freshly placed concrete slabs. Each dowel is grasped each by an individual inserter. Typically the inserter is mounted from a carrier and includes paired tangs having female dowel receiving ends of arcuate configuration at the lower portion thereof which female arcuate ends precisely mate to and receive the dowels. These tangs are connected at a depth above maximum concrete penetration by an electromagnet. A vibrator is attached to the inserter to liquefy the concrete. A dowel storage bin with distributing conveyor enables a row of inserters mounted to a carrier to distribute a plurality of dowels between two intended joints simultaneously, the dowels being evenly distributed the width of any contraction joint.

    Abstract: The invention comprises a device which automatically spreads road repair material over a pothole or crack in a road. The device has a spreader which is attached to the rear of a moving vehicle, such as a dump truck, which optionally has a quantity of road repair material stored therein. The repair material is deposited on the road surface either in the crack or pothole or immediately behind it. The spreader then passes over the hole and either smoothes the repair or fills the hold by carrying the repair material into the hole and simultaneously smoothes it over. The device has adjustment means whereby the spreader can conform to the contour or grade of the road to aid in the smoothing process. Use of the device eliminates the manual labor involved in making a road repair, and also accomplishes the repair quicker than has heretofore been possible.

    Abstract: A device for locking a vehicle to a loading dock during a loading operation. The device includes a frame mounted on the front surface of the dock beneath a pit which houses an adjustable dockboard. A slide assembly is mounted for vertical movement on the frame, and the slide assembly includes a locking member adapted to engage an abutment on the vehicle, as the slide assembly is elevated. To raise and lower the slide assembly, a motor is mounted on the slide assembly and drives a gear that engages a rack carried by the frame. The rack is spring biased to an upper position, and on operation of the motor in one direction, the slide assembly is raised to bring the locking member into engagement with the abutment on the vehicle. Continued operation of the motor will then move the rack downwardly relative to the gear and slide assembly, and downward movement of the rack will activate a switch to cut off power to the motor.

A retractable guardrail closes at least one end of the lift platform. Safety means are also provided to prevent tampering with said power unit and to prevent entrapment between the platform and base.

    Abstract: A flexible traffic standard which includes an anchor support assembly consisting of a hollow cylindrical tube and a driving point, and a resilient standard assembly comprising a tempered spring steel strap, the bottom end of which is disposed within a rigid tube, and a resilient tubular cover which encloses the strap and tube. The resilient standard assembly is disposed within the hollow cylindrical tube of the anchor support assembly and is secured by means of a pair of compression bolts. A rain boot prevents water from running down into the tube and a rain cap prevents the entry of water through the top of the flexible standard. The tempered spring steel strap which forms the resilient core of the device is reversely folded at its midpoint, to form a pair of upwardly extending resilient arms which are laterally outwardly offset by means of a twist in the spring steel at the midpoint reverse point.
