    Abstract: NOx removal catalyst can be obtained by kneading various kinds of inorganic fibers and water containing a surfactant to make a pulp-like substance, adding a catalytic component thereto and then further kneading the resultant mixture to prepare a catalyst paste. The thus obtained catalyst paste is shaped into a honeycomb-like, plate-like or column-like form according conventional various molding methods, and then dried and calcined for use. Instead of the above catalytic components; catalytic carriers such as titanium, zeolite, zirconia and the like may be shaped and calcined in the same manner and used for carrying a catalytic component. A particularly high performance and strength can be obtained with good result when a composition produced by calcining a molybdenum (Mo), vanadium (V) or tungsten (W) compound born on titanium oxide at 400.degree. to 700.degree. C. is used.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a catalyst for asymmetric synthesis prepared from a dialkali metal salt of an optically active 2,2'-dihydroxy-1,1'-binaphthyl represented by the formula (I.sub.R) ##STR1## or the formula (I.sub.S) ##STR2## (wherein M is Li, K or Na), a lanthanum compound represented by LaX.sub.3 (X is F, Cl, Br, I, NO.sub.3 or CH.sub.3 CO.sub.2) and an alkali metal alkoxide or an alkali metal hydroxide represented by MOR or MOH (M is Li, K or Na, and R is isopropyl or t-butyl), respectively, in the presence of a water-containing solvent. The catalyst of the present invention is extremely valuable as a catalyst for asymmetric synthesis of an asymmetric nitroaldol reaction useful in the synthesis of a .beta.-hydroxynitro compound which is an important synthetic raw material for an optically active compound such as a medicine.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the preparation of a supported procatalyst intended for the polymerization of olefins, in which particles are formed from magnesium halide and alcohol, the particles are reacted with an organometallic compound of any of the metals of the groups I to III, the thus obtained particulate product is activated by means of a titanium(IV) compound, and optionally a prepolymerization is carried out for the activated particles. A problem with this kind of a method is, how to form particles from magnesium dihalide and alcohol having an advantageous structure for the polymerization of ethylene and particularly ethylene with a narrow molecular weight distribution. The problem has in the present invention been solved so that the particles are formed by spray-crystallizing a mixture of magnesium dihalide and alcohol to complex particles of magnesium dihalide and alcohol and that titanium(IV) alcoxyhalide has been used as the titanium compound.

The organic substituents on the phosphine group are optionally substituted C.sub.1-20 hydrocarbons, such as C.sub.1-20 alkyls or alkenyls, C.sub.3-20 cycloalkyls or cycloalkenyls having 3 to 8 carbon atoms in the ring, or optionally substituted C.sub.6-20 aryl or fused aryl. The optional substituents on the hydrocarbons include halogens, preferably chloride and fluoride; C.sub.1-6 alkyl; C.sub.1-6 alkenyl; or C.sub.1-6 alkoxy.

    Abstract: The present invention concerns a polymerization catalyst of olefins, said catalyst containing an active chromium compound on an inorganic support. The catalyst in accordance with the invention is prepared by vaporizing a precursor of chromium oxide such as chromyl chloride and allowing the chromium oxide vapor to react with the surface of, e.g., silica gel support material at 160.degree. . . . 500.degree. C. A selective binding of the chromium oxide to the support material is achieved by keeping the vapor pressure sufficiently high and the duration of interaction with the support sufficiently long so as to maintain an excess of the chromium compound in relation to the number of available binding sites on the support material. The activity of a catalyst in accordance with the invention even with a very low content of catalytic metal is as high as the activity of a catalyst of an appreciably higher metal content that has been prepared by the methods of the conventional technology.
