Abstract: A refrigerator with a freezer section and a passage for the flow of ice through the closed freezer section door is provided with a solenoid-like actuator which is effective for quickly opening a related ice dispenser door upon initiation of the flow of ice, and which is effective for relatively slowly closing the related ice dispenser door to thereby assure that further ice will not pass into the passage after the ice dispenser door is closed.
Abstract: A weighing device is mounted to a frame or chassis of a vehicle, particularly a truck. The weighing device comprises at least two weighing frames for supporting a load, such as a container and its content, to be weighed. Each weighing frame is connected to the vehicle chassis, either directly or through a supporting frame. Connecting elements are connected to the weighing frames and the vehicle chassis or the supporting and supports the weighing frames. The connecting elements have load cells to measure the weight of the load. Lifting devices are operatively connected to the weighing frames to lift the entire load away from the from the chassis during weighing, where the load is supported or suspended entirely by the connecting elements. The weighing frames, the supporting frames, the connecting elements, and the lifting devices together from a weighing unit that can be connected to the vehicle chassis.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for use in weighing products having circular or oval footprint configurations. A conveyor having a pair of parallel conveyor elements arranged to underengage the footprint only adjacent the periphery thereof transports the products one at a time across a planar surface of a weigh pan or scale device. The surface of the weigh pan is shaped and the transverse spacing between the conveyor elements is adjustable in order to permit lengths of the surface of the weigh pan engaged by the conveyor elements to be selected to correspond essentially to dimensions of differently sized products to be weighed.
Abstract: A mechanical linkage for independently opening and closing a plurality of associated switches is provided by the invention. The linkage comprises a plurality of connecting rods that provide the initial driving force to open or close the switch, cranks for opening and closing the contacts of respective switches, linking elements which couple together the connecting rods and the cranks, and a number of lever assemblies having a bearing ring interfaced thereto. The bearing rings provide a supportive interface between two linking element but permit the linking elements to rotate independently from one another. The lever assemblies also provide an interface for the connecting rods and linking element. According to a method of the present invention, a connecting rod is actuated in response to a signal to cause the lever assembly to pivot. The linking rod interfaced with the connecting rod via the lever assembly is then rotated in response to the pivoting.
Abstract: The invention provides a cylindrical permanent magnet unit suitable for application to gyrotrons. Essentially the magnet unit consists of two cylindrical permanent magnets which are coaxially aligned, and there is a space between the two cylindrical magnets. Each of the two cylindrical magnet is a coaxially juxtaposed assembly of a plurality of ring-like permanent magnets, and each ring-like magnet is constructed of a plurality of permanent magnet segments. In one of the two cylindrical magnets every ring-like permanent magnet is magnetized in radial directions from the inside toward the outside, and in the other every ring-like permanent magnet is magnetized in radial directions from the outside toward the inside. In the bore of the cylindrical magnet unit the magnetic field is in the direction of the longitudinal center axis of the bore.

Abstract: A three-phase autotransformer improving balance of three-phase voltages and currents. An iron core has three legs corresponding to the three phase. A common winding and/or a serial winding of each phase includes three coils. Two of the three coils are wound on the same leg associated with the phase of the coils, and the other one coil is wound on another leg. The two coils and the other one coil are connected in series to generate magnetic flux in the opposite directions. Since the common winding and/or the series winding includes coils which are wound on different legs associated with different phases, and which generate flux in opposite directions, the balance of three-phase input voltages and currents, and output voltages and currents is automatically maintained.
Abstract: An open magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) magnet having first and second spaced-apart superconductive coil assemblies each including a toroidal-shaped coil housing containing a superconductive main coil. A generally annular-shaped permanent magnet array is associated with each coil assembly, being generally coaxially aligned with the associated coil assembly and being spaced radially inward and radially apart from the associated coil assembly's superconductive main coil. The permanent magnet arrays overcome the gross magnetic field distortions in the imaging volume of the superconductive main coils (created by the open space between the magnet's superconductive coil assemblies) to produce a magnetic field of high uniformity within the imaging volume.
Abstract: A deceleration sensor switch (10) comprises electrical contacts (50, 52) and a mass (14) movable between an unactuated position in which the electrical contacts are open and an actuated position in which the electrical contacts are closed. The mass is biased towards the unactuated position. A cylinder (30) includes an end portion (44) and a cylindrical wall portion (34) extending from the end portion to define a chamber (35) inside the cylinder. The end portion includes a metering orifice (36) for allowing air to flow between the chamber and outside the cylinder. A shaft (22) interconnects the mass and a truncated cone (24). The cone has a skirt end (26) and is movable in one direction relative to the chamber to displace air from the chamber through the metering orifice to outside the cylinder upon the mass moving from the unactuated position to the actuated position in response to the mass being subjected to deceleration of at least a predetermined magnitude.

A setting device manually sets an image signal processing condition of the processing circuit, thereby accomplishing optimization of the image processing.

Abstract: A weighing device has not only a scale cell which weighs an object and outputs a weight signal indicative of the measured weight value but also a vibration-detecting load cell for detecting the vibrations of the floor to which the scale cell is set such that the effects of the floor vibrations can be subtracted from the weight value detected by the scale cell. The vibration-detecting load cell has attenuation-adjusting members adhesively attached to strain-generating parts of its load-sensitive element such that the attenuation constant of the load cell is thereby increased at least by a factor of 2. The usable dynamic range of the load cell can thus be increased while the load cell is kept compact. Butyl rubber members can be used for this purpose.
Abstract: A magnet system for a nuclear spin tomograph having at least one field producing magnet coil S.sub.1 with radius r.sub.s1 arranged in a middle plane which produces a homogeneous magnetic field in an investigational volume directed along a z-axis perpendicular to the middle plane, is characterized in that at least one, preferentially at least two, ferromagnetic rings R.sub.i with radius r.sub.Ri are provided in the middle plane concentric to the magnetic coil S.sub.1. A system of this kind can be substantially more compact in construction than conventional systems with equal produced field strength. In addition substantially reduced currents are required through the coil or coils for field production.
Abstract: A retractable key assembly comprising a key top and an externally extending pivot arm. The pivot arm allows arcuate movement of the key top about a pivot axis such that the key top can be used in an upper, active keying position or stored in a lower, inactive position. The use of a pivot arm enables a lower profile keyboard when the keyboard is in the retracted, inactive position. Displacement of the internal actuation assembly allows the keytop to actually rest on the keyboard base. A translatable base member is useful to raise or retract the key assembly. The disclosed key assembly provides an aesthetic appearance and improved keying accuracy, relative to conventional keyboard arrangements.
Abstract: A gravimetric control system for supplying fuel and sorbent to a circulating fluidized bed boiler which includes a loop shaped continuous belt for moving materials in a generally horizontal direction. The apparatus includes first and second belt scales disposed at spaced axial points along the belt and apparatus for continuously moving the belt sequentially past the first belt scale and then past the second belt second belt scale and then dumping all material on the belt.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for initiating a weighing scale operation, including a quick start program operable either by the tare key of the weighing scale or by the application of a load to the load-receiving member of the scale to by-pass a start-up test program, and to connect directly a weighing program to a display, thereby to avoid the display and confirmation of a start-up test program. Upon the reenergization of the signal processing unit following a power failure, the test program is automatically displayed on the display device.
