  • Patent number: 4621800
Abstract: A suction device is movable between a receiving position in which it removes a sheet of film from a magazine and a delivery position in which it transfers the sheet to a conveyor. The effective width of the suction device approximates or equals the width of the smallest sheet of film to be transferred. Sheets having a width greater than the smallest width are gripped in the region of one end thereof leaving the remainder of such a sheet free to deflect. In order to permit proper transfer of all sheets into the conveyor, the latter is provided with grooved rollers which lift the deflected portions of larger sheets into the conveyor. In the delivery position, the suction device is located opposite one portion of the conveyor. The conveying force exerted by this portion of the conveyor is smaller than the gripping force which the suction device exerts on a sheet but larger than the conveying force exerted by a laterally adjacent portion of the conveyor.

  • Patent number: 4621714
Abstract: A slack adjuster for vehicle brakes is adapted to be mounted between the brake chamber and the brake operating shaft. The slack adjuster includes a body and a drive member movable relative to and positioned by the body on the brake operating shaft. A lever arm is pivoted to the body and there is an adjustable connection between the lever arm and drive member for the sensing and take up of slack during a brake application. The adjustable connection includes a clutch having facing and relatively rotatable clutch surfaces, each of which has opposing cooperating ratchet teeth. The teeth on one of said surfaces are separated into a plurality of radially spaced circumferential bands. The teeth in each band are positioned to independently engage the teeth on the opposing clutch face to provide increments of slack adjustment.

  • Patent number: 4620616
Abstract: A cooling device is provided for a vehicle having disc brakes which are disposed within a wheel rim cover portion of the vehicle's wheels. One type of disc brake for which the cooling device is designed is that type having generally radially extending internal air ducts between its friction rings through which air can flow for cooling the brake. The air is supplied to the brake through overflow ducts in the vehicle's wheel hub, and is conducted via a guide device from the inside of the wheel, through the brake unit. The guide device includes an air guide housing which surrounds the brake disc generally on all sides in a close, spaced relation to the disc. First and second external air ducts are formed between a wall of the housing and the friction rings of the brake disc. The housing includes an outer member having at least two influx openings. The influx openings conduct air, from inside the wheels, to the overflow ducts in the wheel hub, the external ducts, and the internal ducts.

  • Patent number: 4620617
Abstract: A brake actuator shaft has a clutch on an inner end which drives a splined sleeve. The splined sleeve engages an inner projection to turn one piston part on another piston part and to effectively lengthen the piston part. When the shaft is turned by a brake lever, it operates an actuator which presses on the piston part and inward projection and which prevents further relative rotation of the piston parts, causing the clutch to slip. A gear on an outer surface of the rotating portion of the piston engages a pinion connected to a manual adjuster. A ratchet in the manual adjuster prevents rotation of the pinion and the gear in the piston shortening direction.

  • Patent number: 4619348
Abstract: A combined hydropneumatic brake cylinder/air reservoir device having a hydraulic piston formed on the end of a push rod through which interconnected, different sized, pneumatic pistons operate to transmit the desired brake force. The hydraulic piston operates in a hydraulic cylinder having a slack adjuster piston arranged to supply or reduce the hydraulic fluid in the braking circuit in order to compensate for overtravel and undertravel of the pneumatic piston assembly due to brake shoe wear and brake shoe replacement respectively. The double-acting slack adjuster action results in the stroke of the pneumatic piston assembly being maintained constant to assure continued optimum operating efficiency.

  • Patent number: 4618135
Abstract: The invention relates to a sheet feeder for the individual feeding of sheets to a sheet treating machine. A first sheet pile is carried by a main pile table, and sheets from this sheet pile can be fed by a sheet separating device, optionally via a first feed table, to the sheet treating machine. A further sheet pile is carried by an auxiliary pile table. Sheets can be fed by a second sheet separating device from this further sheet pile to the sheet treating machine, again optionally via a second feed table. Using this arrangement, in place of the sheets from the first pile table, sheets from the auxiliary pile table can be fed to the sheet treating machine without interruption, as the sheet feed from the two piles is carried out in the same rhythm. Preferably a control circuit is used to meter out a selected number of prerun sheets from the auxiliary pile table followed without interruption by another selected number of continuous running sheets.

  • Patent number: 4618134
Abstract: An automatic paper sheet supplying apparatus for supplying paper sheets one after another, via a first guide surface of a first stationary guide which extends into a paper sheet processer with which the supplying apparatus is combined. The sheets are fed from a sheet holding unit to the processor. A processed paper sheet is led via a passage between the second guide surface of the first guide and a second stationary guide, from the processor to a stacking unit. A movable guide is capable of moving between an open position, at which the entrance of the stacking unit is not covered so as to allow the entering of the processed sheet to the stacking unit, and a closed position, at which the entrance of the stacking unit is covered so as to disturb the processed sheet from entering the stacking unit.

  • Patent number: 4616738
Abstract: A damped boring bar assembly for damping the vibrations encountered during the high-speed boring of titanium, zirconium, and their alloys and the like, as well as steel and other metals, especially when the overhang, or ratio of the diameter to depth of the bored hole, is very small. The boring bar assembly has a weighted damper body contained within a hollow elongated case, the tool-holding end of which is closed and incorporates a shaped inner face with a frictional sliding surface. The damper body also has a frictionally slidable element which, with the damper body, holds a resilient element in compression in an internal cavity. The frictionally slidable element has a shaped face having a frictional surface thereon which engages the frictional surface of the inner face of the elongated case during vibration. The damping mechanism can be adjusted to handle different machining conditions.

  • Patent number: RE32281
Abstract: A copy sheet-feeding apparatus comprises a switch and control mechanism. The switch detects an open state of a sheet cover capable of exposing a stack of copy sheet and a closed state of the cover sheet capable of enclosing the stack, and generates signals denoting the open and closed states of the sheet cover. The control mechanism controls a drive mechanism for moving a sheet rest supporting the stack of copy sheets between a first position capable of receiving the copy sheets and a second position capable of supplying the sheet to a copying press. Receiving the signal denoting the open state of the sheet cover from the switch, the control mechanism causes the sheet rest to be moved to the first position, and, receiving the signal denoting the closed state thereof, causes the sheet rest to be moved to the second position.
